The Official Super Bowl XLIII Thread

A) If you thought that was the only questionable call, you're kidding yourself. The roughing the passer call on Big Ben was pretty horrible, as was at least one of the defensive holding calls on Arizona.

B) You're pretty much the only one who thinks the Harrison personal foul was "garbage". It was a cheapshot and he should have been tossed. Saying he just 'pushed him back to the ground with an open hand" is laughable.

yeah, i can agree with you on that.
he hit him in the chest with and open hand, there's nothing illegal about that.

I think the argument is more about how and where the rules were enforced.

As someone in the middle, i thought that the game was a sham and one that a good conspiracy theorist would have a field day with.

Steelers fans, congrats to you, but at the same time i feel sorry for you. Once again you have won the Super Bowl but not without having the world thinking you acquired it with the assistance of the stripes.

the steelers are ahead by 6 with just under 3 minutes to play and are called with a hold in the endzone after converting a third and 11 giving the cards 2 points and the ball with a chance to take the lead. the steelers are down by 3 with 2 and a half to play and the first play they are called with a hold and a big ten yard loss. anyone that thinks that the refs were calling the game for pittsburgh is an idiot. if the refs were bias towards pitt, no way do they make the calls i mentioned earlier.

:eek:lol: @ Steelers fans.
awh, who's laughing now?

Well guys, good game. Congrats Jake on your team..
thank you.

By better team, I hope you mean the team that had the Refs in their pocket. The Arizona Cardinals got screwed over big time tonight,.
cry me a river.

godfather just pointed it out, but two huge calls agains the steelers late in the game.

anyway....a few thoughts....

the refs weren't great, but they were consistent. and as for the calls against the cards while on offense, this is nothing new if you've watched the Steeler D all year. they make offenses uncomfortable. they make them do things they don't normally do. that's part of why they're so good. they make people hold.

While i'm not even going to defend what Harrison did to get his personal foul, his play at the end of the half was nothing short of phenominal. that play goes down in Super Bowl immortatlity.

to me this game played exactly like Super Bowl 38. Except this time my team was the one that had hte ball last and won on the last possesion.

as a steeler fan, the 1st half was as good as you could have hoped for. the 2nd half, we had chances to put that game away and couldn't. credit AZ for not quitting, cause they knew 1 or 2 plays could get 'em back in it, and that's exactly what they did.

Credit the maligned Steeler offense and Big Ben for having enough of "it" to win a Super Bowl on your last possession. Santonio Holmes was spectacular on that last drive.

Lastly, as a steeler fan and someone that's watched 'em all year long, all i can say is they won last night like they've won all year long. it's not pretty. it can be gut wrenching at times, but when they have to make a play, they make it. and that's what champions do.

Great game. Even better out come. and for all the haters.......i don't care. 6 Time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Sounds good.

Here we go Steelers, Here we go! Here we go Steelers, here we go!

volsgal, spoke to the in laws last night, they said the city was buzzing, and all the businesses closing etc....like you said.

I bet it was crazy in the 'burgh last night after the game.

Mothe in law out getting the wife and Super bowl gear today!

we didn't even contemplate throwing a party. the wife and i knew that we could only watch with folks that wanted to watch, and were steeler fans.

just had one other couple, my parents, and my wife's dad's old college roommate over.

it was pretty cool for bieng low key....all chanting "Here we go Steelers" and waving our terrible towels in my sports room......good stuff.

what a great night.....

Hmm. No, can't say that I have. It's one thing to say your team won, but you're saying things like they were clearly the better team when in reality they benefited from a few game changing plays or calls. You also said the "fumble" at the end didn't deserve to be reviewed since a hail mary has such a small chance of succeeding.
you think the steelers weren't the better team?

getting a lead late despite how the bulk of hte game had gone for the cards showed heart.

drving down the length of the feild after getting a safety on the previous posession and a holding call on the last posession, and scoring a game winning touch down is what champions do.

you go watch every super bowl previous to last night, and in most of them there are a select set of plays that changed the game.

last night was no different. Big Ben, Holmes and Harrison came up big when it mattered the most.

and their reward is a big fat ring. deal with it.

Looked like Kurt's arm got hit BUT he kept control of the ball even after the hit and just lost control AFTER his arm started going forward - how is it not atleast worth a review? Probably wouldn't have made a difference - but gives them 1 shot at the end zone - you'd think they'd review such a crucial play in the Super Bowl.
on the first one, that's what happened, and they made the right call.

on the last one, i think this point is at best debatable. his arm went back, got hit....the thing that has to be defined is was his arm moving forward before the ball came loose?

obviously i don't think so.

and as for the review process, they called it a fumble. the booth has to call the review. the Steelers lined up and ran the play as quick as they could to prevent it.

you call it bad officiating, i call it great coaching. Tomlin and co. recognized the situation and got the offense out there and ready very quickly, snap the ball, game over.

the Harrison personal foul and the holding in the end zone prompted my gf to ask if they (stealers) always played this dirty.

no. i'm not going to defend Harrison on the personal foul, but holding being dirty? i mean, they did call it, and everyone holds.

the steelers do have a mentality to be more physical than their opponent, no doubt, but i'd be hard pressed to call it "dirty".

it's kind of like asking if Dale Earnhardt was a dirty race car driver......

Could have been interesting if not for pick 6 to end the first half. Boring game.
Dude, Harrison picked off a ball in the endzone and ran it back 100 yards for a Touch down to end the half.

that's boring?

jeez. you'll never see that happen again. that play was amazing.

Between the Harrison INT return, Larry Fitzgerald's 2 TD receptions and Santonio Holmes' last 2 catches, that game had more "up off the couch" moments than any Super Bowl I can remember. It was a just a great football game.

Yep. That interception return at the half was incredible. Fitzgerald's first TD and Holmes' TD were both great catches. Fun game to watch.

yep. i didn't think last year's could be topped, and this year may or may not have done it, but man, the ends of the two halves were awesome.

nah, he shouldn't have done it, but stuff like that happens on just about every play.

it just looks as bad as it was because it wasn't in traffic or on the bottom of the pile.

he got called, rightfully so. but shouldn't have been tossed.

you ever watch the gunners on a punt play? when they double those guys they get their arse kicked all the way down the field.

Punching a man while he is down like a street fighter has no place in the game. Im sure it takes place in piles but this occured in the open where he had to have been aware of the view. It was garbage.

like i said, that's the worst part of it. the view everyone had of it. but as far as it being normal in the NFL game...........well, it wasn't extraordinary.

Yes but these guys aren't on the ground and have no chance at making a play. The forearm to the back I have no problem with. The player was exposed and defenseless, and had no shot at making any kind of play.

don't misunderstand, i'm not condoning what Harrison did.

all i'm saying is that i don't think it's as big a deal as you all are making it out to be.

i mean serioulsly, watch a punt where the gunners are double teamed. you'll see worse than that in a normal punt play.

I still think they should have looked at the Warner "fumble" a LOT more closely. Looked like his arm was moving forward to me. But at any rate, game over.

there's nothing like whining about the refs after losing the biggest game they've ever played in.

you know what, the steelers had the hold that cost 'em a safety, and on the ensuing possession the cards scored a TD to go ahead. then they get the ball back with 2.38 to go, and get another holding call. it's first and 98 to win the game.

and what do they do? they go down and win the darn game. Despite the calls from the refs.

what the bellyaching is really about is the understanding that you had the game won and you couldn't stop Ben and Santonio when you had to.

remember, despite all the "terrible calls" you all are crying about....the cards were winning the game with less than 3 minutes to go in the Super Bowl.

at the end of the day, they were presented with an opportunity to save the game, and the STeelers were presented an opportunity to win it.

we took advantage of it, they didn't. Winners win, losers cry about refs and replays.
