The Official Tennesse vs. Memphis Game Thread, 8:00pm ET, ESPN2

He makes the decision to put them on the court and where were they when UT made their run?

Maymon is out, Reese was out, Edwards was out and Golden has a hurt shoulder. He has not been the same since he hurt it 3 games ago. He doesn't have a lot of other choices at this time, but they were on the bench with a walk on PG leading the way.

You got me, sport. You play Reese and Edwards and there's a different outcome.

Nevermind the fact that Tarik Black didn't play tonight.

But you just keep on carrying the water. Memphis and Pastner simply got lucky.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Please point out any of my posts where I said Memphis and Pastner got lucky. Did Memphis make some shots that they don't normally make? Yes, but they didn't get lucky. Not many teams come into TBA and win.

I'll give you Black out. We've been without our best player all year and were without Reese and Edwards but Edwards wasn't that big a loss. Maymon hasn't played all year, but Reese was a loss.

I think the person that should be ashamed is someone coming in here and acting like Pastner created this mighty zone defense and shut UT down. It's just something that every single team has done this year. Except UT scored 80 points this time when they usually only score 63.

Great call Sparky. My God, the stupidity.

I guess the 17,000 home fans couldn't tip the scales.

I'm not here to call UT a bad team. In another thread, I commended Jordan McRae for his play tonight. I didn't mean to start this line of argument. Good game. You'll fare well in the reast of your schedule.

I don't think you want to examine the implication of this game then, if Pastner doesn't get the credit.

Counzo had 6 days to prepare his offense for the 2-3 zone, and this is what happened.

Does that strike you better?

Cuonzo has had all off season and 6 weeks into the season to try and attack a 2-3 zone and this offense still doesn't know how to attack it. You thinking Pastner threw some grand scheme at UT that shut them down is laughable.

Have you even watched this team play? Maymon is the point forward and he has been out all year and UT has struggled all year on offense. The offense went through him. Golden is now hurt and he has had 3 bad to awful games and UT was lucky to beat Xavier. If not for Reese playing in his first game and knocking down two big 3's to help lead the comeback then that is probably a loss.

Pastner did nothing that no other team has done to UT. Play zone and watch them dribble the ball around the perimeter. They actually got the ball inside more in the 1st half than they normally do. Hell, that was a positive for this offense.

I said UT would lose 63-58. My margin of victory was spot on but not the amount of points. No one predicted both teams to score this many points because UT rarely does and Memphis rarely makes that many shots.

Well, congratulations I guess. I came to the board after the game trying to give credit to both coaches. I have been told that I am mistaken though.

Apparently Memphis has an idiot for a coach, and UT has an an even bigger idiot for a coach who just lost a home game to Memphis' idiot coach. We're all f**ked.

Sleep well angry UT fan. Dream that when you wake up, the outcome with be different.

I don't think either coach had that great of a game. I'll give Pastner credit for having his guys more ready at the start of the game than Martin did. They come out and took the fight to UT and that was one of the differences in the game because they built such a huge lead. Joe Jackson was the main guy though. UT had no one to guard him.

I never called Pastner an idiot either. You like putting words into people's posts. Pastner and Martin are both still learning. Pastner has very good talent. Outside of Ky or Mizzou, I doubt UT will face more talent then they faced tonight. That's a credit to Pastner for recruiting them. However, he still hasn't shown me that he is capable of outcoaching a team with similar or better talent. Martin has a few times in the last year and a half. He sure as hell didn't have the talent that Pastner had tonight. That was evident within the first few minutes.

Well, like I said. It was a good game. You guys have a star on your hands with Jordan McRae.

Show Sklar McBee the door, for god's f***ng sake, and let Jordan McRae run and gun.

I don't think either coach, coached a very good honestly, JMO.

Turning point was down 8, about 3 and a half minutes left. Jordy has an open 3, misses, we come down get a block, runout by josh and missed dunk. Believe Memphis came back with a 3 point play. If those 2 shots drop it's a 3 point game with 3 minutes left to play, I fully believe we'd have won.

But...too little too late, can't get down 20+, especially in the 2nd half and expect to come back.

It won't matter because the next game it will be golden, mcbrick, stokes, and whatever other two gonzo decides to put in. he needs to stick with a starting 5 that can score and not make stupid shots or mistakes.
If you would've told me that Memphis would shoot 57.4% from the field, I would've said we were never in it. However, if Richardson makes his dunk, we're only down 2 later in the game.

We were down 21 points and lose by 5. I hate moral victories, but maybe this team found some offense in Richardson and McRae. At the least, it should give them some confidence going into the SEC season. McBee and Moore would never see the floor other than spot duty. McBee can't stay with anyone and he is not a consistent enough shooter to get the playing time he gets. Moore just flat out stinks right now.

Wish we could've had Maymon and Reese, or hell, even Edwards for some offense when we were struggling in the 1st half.

I hope that Reese kid gets back soon.. Watching McBrick miss shot after shot is like running your fingers down a chalkboard...

Reese was 2-8 against Xavier. If his ability to shoot 25% is the missing link, this team is even worse than I imagined.

Compare three pointers, the one thing Mcbee shoots.
Reese is a viable option at the 2/3/4.
Would create serious match up problems.
As Per Martin:
High BB IQ
Good passer
Good handle for 6-8
Full shooting range
Hope he gets healthy soon.
Let's see what he brings.
Guy has arms to his ankles.

Think that may have really hurt the staff preparation. Day before the game he suffers the injury, unfortunate, he was gonna get big minutes.

I'm very proud of this team even though we should have never been into position where they were down 21 points. CCM just has to bench McBee that's all there is too it. I'm glad that this was my first game to attend. When it's loud it's probably the loudest arena I've been in, but we have to find some way to move all the old folk to a certain section. They don't want to get up and cheer or do anything of the sort lol.

Anyways I think we still have some offensive kinks but if CCM can put the right players in and leave them in at the right time I don't see how we don't finish top 4 in the league and can make a possible run in the SEC tourney and onto the NCAA tourney.

Well, I hate that I was right to be worried.

They play good defense, but he has underachieved with his offensive talent. I would hate to see what some of our fans would say if we were following that team.

Not knocking them because we lost either. He certainly doesn't play the same game as his successor at VCU.
