I took for granted just how clutch our lineup was the last 2 seasons.
Exactly. As I have said, biggest difference on the team. Those teams, (and the COVID-cancelled team) were clutch.

That gives pitchers tremendous flexibility and comfort, so they don’t have to press…

It all kinda snowballs, good or bad. Lately, our snowball is full of gravel.

Definitely not giving up on this season/game, but had always thought that next year would be better with who we have coming back. Hopefully taking our lumps this year could pay off down the line and we’ll get some payback.

Agreed bud. This is baseball. All of the “sky is falling” folks in these threads don’t understand baseball at all. Just because you were lights out the year before doesnt meant you’re going to come back and be the exact same. We’ll see what happens, but how can you not love the game of baseball win or lose.

and that may be spark that lights the fire, however rankings dont mean crap except to the fans who like to beat their chest at the office.
i hope your right. I keep thinking back to the last two seasons when no one thought Ole Miss or Miss State had life.

It’s been a rough year for sure. Hard not to have frustrations get the best of me sometime, but having baseball to watch is better than no baseball at all. I just hate that all of our rivals have gotten to smack us around this year and there has been little fun to be had in that regard. Oh well.

When the 64-seed wins a basketball championship, I will believe the madness is a good as baseball playoffs. Until then, give me late inning rallies over buzzer beaters.

Baseball, and it’s playoff system designed to reward the team playing best at the end of the year, is simply incredible.

I’m not upset because I knew there was potential for this season to be weird with all of the turnover. With that said, I thought we’d be in a lot of 3-2, 2-1 type ballgames though.
🤷‍♂️

Nobody expected this team to be the same as last years or duplicate last year’s record. Nobody, period. But I think we all expected better than this. I think even you can admit to that.

Positive Burns has looked really good so overall except Drew outing pitching has been really good just defense that has let us down. Offense has had good swings at times but just hitting right at people. My point is this yes we have played really bad at times in all parts of the games but we still have had chances so when improve each aspect what does this team become. Keep the faith my Vol friends. We can still turn this season around and no better place than home against Vandy boys. In CHRIST Alone

That may be the issue at the moment, no Drew Gilbert type person at the moment

Thanks @ Old Timer. Baseball is mentally draining when things don’t go your way. It’s the only sport where 30% success rate (batting) is acceptable.

Yeah I think “a lot” of low scoring games are behind us. Maybe it’s partly the ball this year, but even good teams give up lots of runs. College baseball.

I didn’t say I didn’t expect to be good, but the ridiculous bashing and all that is dumb. I’m a huge Atlanta Braves fan as well and there’s been plenty of seasons when they were expected to be good and it just didn’t happen. It’s baseball period.

This team has a lack of confidence problem and when it rains it pours. Thats the only explanation I can come up with for mental mistakes, errors. If you go out there waiting to f up, the probability of it happening is ten fold

Stop with this false narrative, NOBODY who follows us expected anything close to the same. I don’t think expecting to be around .500 right now and finishing there or slightly above was too much to ask/expect. Everyone can point to State and their falloff last year and say “see it happens” but I guarantee they had the same hand wringing conversations on their message boards last year as well. I also guarantee that they expected to take a step back from 2021 replacing Jordan, Allen and a plethora of other guys but they didn’t expect 9-21, even with some of their injuries.
