I’m not pining for the umpires in this case, but my viewpoint is the over authoritative stance umpires have taken this year goes back to one thing: the umpires have been directed by conference leaders to not only curb, but not allow anything beyond the fist-bumping, high-fiving, etc. I feel quite sure the umpires were specifically trained on these issues and are constantly reminded by league officials that there is basically a zero tolerance policy. I think liability, amongst a handful of other things plays a significant role. Hence, umpires are doing what they’re doing. He lost his mind. And then the umps lost there’s with a 40 min review. It was simple. You toss the Catcher and whoever from GA (think it was an Assistant Coach) who came flying out of dugout with malicious intent! Should have taken about 3 minutes along with warnings to both dugouts.
I don’t think there’s any doubt amongst us that we all believe umpiring itself is just not very good these days. There might be a few that are very good, but not many.
