The Official Tennessee - College of Charleston Game Thread, 9pm EST, ESPN2

The sig is mainly for Bray.

Point is we blow hard this year. Did i expect to compete with UK and Vandy? Hell no. But CCM has gotten outcoached by oakland, AP, and now CoC.
People need to quit making excuses for this team. Are we talented? No. But do we have the talent to beat these three teams? absolutely.

No they don't have the talent to beat these teams. The product on the floor proves it. And if you want to know how I know it isn't the coaching it's because Martin WAS BEATING MID-MAJORS just a year ago. He basically still playing the same teams he played last year. Only thing that has changed is his players. Seems pretty simple to me.

Dude, your so lost! The reason Martin is playing the guys that Pearl left on the bench last year is because that's all that's left. And if Pearl was still here it would probably still be the same guys on the floor.

Uh, no sh*t Sherlock. That's why I was saying that those guys never saw the floor last year for a reason except for Golden. The rest rode the pine. Still, Maymon, Golden and McRae can play when their head is in the game. Not a single player on this team has been the go to guy before this year and they're having to adjust to that.

And if Dooley wins 7 games and his bowl game he will most likely be back. People keep expecting us to somehow just leap to the front of the SEC East. It's been bad for 4 straight years. Why do you suddenly expect to get exponentially better in a conference as tough as the SEC?
Who said it was going to get better? If Dooley only wins 7 games next year, it just proves he's as big a failure as his record indicates.

If thats true, wonder why pearl had so many wins.

Pearl had wins at UT because Chris Lofton was here for 3 years. The program and Pearls record got steadily worse after Lofton left. The elite 8 run was a 'perfect storm' of a busted bracket, and a group of guys that were on a roll. Pearl could motivate, and his staff could scout. But he was a terrible recruiter and at best an average bench coach. He won lots of games as the underdog, because his teams were hard to prep for. He emphasized different parts of the game than most coaches do, so playing them always meant stepping out of your comfort zone (much like playing an option team in football). However, much like the option team, once people in your conference catch on to your game, you lose your advantage.

Hell, if catching on to your game means we can have another coach winning a SEC title outright, 3 SEC East divisions, 6 straight NCAA's, 3 Sweet 16's and an Elite 8 in 6 years then I'll take it right now and twice on Sunday.

I said 7-5 before the bowl game. Way to go out on a limb there. They're cheap guy and hire cheap nobody coaches. That's why you get nobody results.

There aren't any coaches that would have done much better than what Dooley has done. The problem is we were screwed by Kiffin and forced to hire someone that wasn't ready for the job. It wasnt about the money. It was about the timing of it and the state of the program then. Dooley may not be the guy. Honestly I think he is learning as he goes. We weren't in a position to get an established coach so Hamilton got someone he thought could BECOME a good coach. It's like having 4 to the flush on the flop. You know you don't have the best hand now but you could have the best hand at the end. You just have to see it through to the river. I don't think 2 years with Dooley is our "river" yet. We will know more by this time next year but unless next year is just a complete implosion
I think he deserves a 4th year. If by then he hasn't proven himself at least he has recruited well and avoided scandals so we can go get an established guy.

I'd say beating Florida 3 out of 4 times when they won the national title was nothing to sneeze at though.

Pearl also took Dane Bradshaw and made him a 4 and won with him playing against guys much bigger than him. People can say what they want about Pearl's X's and O's, but he found ways to win most of the time. However, his tenure is over. This is now Martin's team and right now I've not seen much in these last few games to make me hopeful for what he can do in the future. I hope he gets better players in or players that fit into his system, but he has now been outcoached and his team outplayed by two mid-major programs in two straight games. That is on him.
Let's see. Less talent than last year. Last year played just as poor. Changed coaches. Somehow it's the new coaches fault. I just don't get that logic.

I'd say that little NCAA investigation had something to do with the play of last year's team. Still, they did make the tourney. This team will be lucky to sniff the NIT. Yeah, I know the roster is mainly Pearl's guys, but if you think losing to a 1-9 Austin Peay team at home is ok for Martin then you probably helped write up the buyout contracts for our last few coaches.

Agreed on these points. The younger guys just need to survive this year. Hopefully some of them pan out.

Remember telling me to "go away" when I predicted 12 wins for this team??? So far you're 0-2 on ur predicted wins for us. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to jump on people for being realistic.

I'll give Martin 3 years to show some kind of improvement. Whether he'll get that or not remains to be seen. Right now, I don't like the way this team is trending. I did like it after the Maui tourney. We showed hustle and fight. Now we seem lost and confused. Blame it on teams having more tape to study on us and figuring us out or our players not being any good to our coaches being outcoached, we have looked bad in these last two games.

Fans will back a team as long as they think they are giving effort and hustling. Once they see them giving up on defense like they did numerous times against Austin Peay and CoC and then looking utterly clueless against the zone, Martin will have to do something to get the fans back on board. He took a tough job in the interim. He has done very little since he arrived to promote his own program. Whether that is his style or not, he needs to do a better job of it. He has to show that his team will play hard and give good effort or he is going to lose the fan base I'm afraid. If only 5,000 people start showing up to watch his team play because of what they've seen on the court, I'm afraid it'll take a miracle for him to fight his way out.

Everyone outside the state of Tennessee thinks we have that coach now.

Dooleys record reflects the talent of the teams he has coached. He has always had to "play uphill.". The next 2 years we should see how he does with comparable talent.

I never once said losing to AP was OK. It's been fun chatting with you. But I think I am just going to put you on ignore now. I think that will make us both happier. Bye bye.

Oh, I'm crushed. You've offered so many pearls of wisdom in your short tenure here.

I think I would swap our entire starting 5 for theirs in a second.
as would I..people need to start looking at reality instead of seeing everything from a sheerly emotional "I am scared my friend who is a fan of a team that is winning will laugh at me" sort of way. Sadly most sports fans' knowledge of the actual sports and teams they cheer for is woefully suspect at best.

Not even close. A lot of fans from other teams are real happy that we have martin.

Really? And what do you base this on? Martin could very easily be the Purdue coach now had things played a little differently. Also, he was an assistant coach on the most recent National team. Every single article or report about Martin's hire and coaching is positive except from UT's own fan base. And of course Clay Travis. ( that should set off some bells for you right there)

If you say last years team played the same as this years
then I guess you think this years team will have 19 wins.
You're not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you?

I base it on communication with fans from other teams.

I wish Martin was the coach of Purdue, I will gladly trade for Matt Painter. Good luck convincing people about Martin after a 3-6 start.

You realize who was the #1 target for Purdue had Painter left, right?

Sharper than you I would guess. Last years team played horrible. The 19 wins were due to starting hot. They were 8-8 in the SEC had a losing record after the turn of the year and got annihilated by Michigan to end the season. Then lost 6 of their 8 or 9 significant players. So no, I never said this team was as good as last years. Just the opposite. That clear it up for you?

And yet Matt Painter thinks Martin is a good coach. Hmmmm, I wonder who would know better, him or you?
