Dunno about that. There are some guys who just can't seem to hit breaking ball and/or off speed stuff. Hope Burke isn't one of those. It's early for sure, but if he continues to struggle over the next couple of weeks, I think we'll start seeing more of Villeneuve at 1B. As for pitching, just based on the first weekend, I really like Russell. Beam might not be able to knock him out of the Friday role. Guy has crazy stuff. My big question is Sunday. Know the staff is rewarding Sechrist, but I'm not sure he keeps that spot. Small body of work, but both Snead and Causey looked like better options. Other than the fact that Sechrist gives you a lefty, I will be interested to see if he's able to hold it. Do you put Causey and his funky motion in on Saturday and return Beam to Sunday? Maybe Beam to Friday, Russell on Saturday then Causey or Snead on Sunday? Who wins the closer job? That's what the early part of the season allows you to figure out. This weekend was great in that it's not a trio of patsies that we could beat up on. These were solid baseball teams and this team learned and grew a lot. One other thing that I consider a big plus was that we played in a MLB stadium. Nothing against LNS, but let's be honest, you play and manage a bit differently when you are in a bigger park where the long ball isn't as easy to come by. That was important for a team that lost the number of players we did from last season. All in all, a very good weekend in several ways IMO.Great win for Vols.
Blake Burke will be fine it's the 3rd game of season. Ensley wasn't a great hitter last season around .280 but doesn't make fielding errors.
Beam is the Ace if staff and A.J. Russell had a great season opener.
Saying that Beam will be the Friday Night starter when SEC play roles around.
As always go Vols.

4) Someone that you mentioned in #3 will likely become the Sunday starter.3 takeaways for me this weekend:
1) We have some big league hitters in our lineup. Billy, Dylan, and Christian are primed for All American seasons.
2) AJ Russell is the real deal. Ace stuff.
3) We have some electric arms in the bullpen. Causey, Stamos, Snead, the 2 freshmen, and Phillips are all special.
It's early as we all know and players will need to settle in. If you had to make a decision today (which you don't), Sneads outing was too busy for me and not ready as a starter for SEC play. My 2 would be Causey & Stamos. What's good is that there are about 15 games or so before SEC play. Plenty of time to find out who that 3rd weekend guy is. Looks like ESPN+ is broadcasting all UT games this week.Agreed. Snead or Causey would do great.
