The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

I'm watching the game DVR.....a few thoughts

Tart is going to get paid by somebody next year

I like Peevy, he's quick off the ball and can eat blocks and hold his own

Garror is a hitter, I like his game. Perfect for this defense.

Phillips injury is worrisome. I just don't think the guy can stay healthy in NFL play.

Spears could be the lightning to Henry's thunder.

Kicker is far from settled, not sure our kicker is currently on this roster

Agreed. The available vets right now are Mason Crosby, Robbie Gould, and our old friend Ryan Succop but we'll see who becomes available after cuts start.

Well, lets hope we get one in the upcoming draft then, because I can guarantee you Levis isnt one
I'm not sold on Levis either...... With that said he's much more advanced at this point in his career than Willis was. Levis can still develop. The Willis experiment is settled.

I didnt like Willis pick, because I dont trust the college spread offense he played in.

With Levis, he looks like tarzan, but plays like Jane. The strong arm is nice, but he processes way too slow, and makes terrible decisions. As a starter at UK he got worse. Hes just not mentally strong enough to be an NFL QB.

If Lamar can be a starting QB so can Willis

Willis is more like a Tebow. In MLB, a good starting pitcher can repeat his motion and throw 80+ pitches with maybe 1-2 two being something a catcher can't reach. Willis just gives away 20-30 % of pass plays be missing so badly that a receiver won't even try to catch it. He might hit the true strike zone 50%.

Tebow was same way. He only had 2-3 patterns he could throw. And his misses were horrific.

Watch Ryan. When he misses......it usually isn't by much.

Running with Malik and Levis as backups is the bed we made at this point. The qbs in next years Draft look like studs so we can move on from one or both and bring in a vet if needed when tannehill isn’t on this team anymore.

Unpopular opinion:

Both were good moves. We took a shot on guys who fell in the draft, at the most valuable position in the game, without having to give up much. Keep swinging and we will hit on one eventually

Yes and no. Draft capital is a much needed commodity. This team lacks depth because we've packaged picks to move up and get guys in the past three drafts. The first one was a failure, the second is all but settled as a failure. We will wait to see about Levis.

I think we gave up quite a bit on each instance, certainly more than we could afford and we're paying for it now. Maybe we'll hit on someone like you said..... But we can't afford to keep packaging picks to move up as get them because we'll have nothing anywhere else on the field...... There aren't many QB'S can overcome a lack of talent..... Especially young QB'S.

If your issue is draft capital, I’d be more upset about the Skronski pick than Levis or Willis. We gave up little for both of them. Skronski we gave up a ton on a team with major needs, for a very low impact position. You can draft high end guards in later rounds. Should’ve traded down there

Not really. If our plan is still to pound the ball we needed to fix the O line. If we played like the Chiefs or Bengals then line doesn't matter but for us it does a lot.

No matter what your plan is, OG is a very low value position. We could’ve had a guy like Shaq Mason for a 6th round pick. You can find plenty of guys to play guard without using a top ten pick.

I don't disagree with trading down. Said that all along. My issue is with trading up burning two picks for one player year after year and getting nothing from them, that kills depth you can't replace without overpaying.

Those are very low level picks we are using. The odds of someone being an important depth piece from the 5th-7th round aren’t great. You can probably sign a guy for the veteran minimum contract and get similar play.

I just wish we’d aggressive you after veterans like Jalen Ramsey and Shaq Mason with those late round picks. I’d send teams 5th or later picks for guys like that all day. Two of our biggest needs.

We gave up 3rd to get Levis. That isn't a low level pick. That's an impact player slot

Your depth absolutely is built on those back half picks. If not you are signing free agents to back up players, they demand much higher salaries than cheap draft and develop guys..... That's a recipe for salary cap hell.

Harder to move the money around to bring in impact free agents when you're burning too much money on depth pieces because you aren't drafting smartly.

Defense is the least of our worries. Having a dominant D line will help to cover issues in the secondary. Just hope the O line is serviceable otherwise Levis will be starting by week 8 because Tannehill will be dead.

What is the difference in contracts? We couldn't and still can't at this moment afford to pay someone. Skronk on a rookie contract is huge until we get rid of some dead cap.

He would be the 30th highest paid LT vs the 16th highest paid LG. So he could be nearly the worst LT in the league and still be priced appropriately, where as he has to be the 16th best guard in the nfl as a rookie to be worth the money.

If you meant what’s the difference in terms of Mason, 1.2m is the answer. Our cap hit for Skoronski is 3.5 and Mason is 4.7. So we could for sure afford it.
