The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

That late…..why not?
I don’t want the “top 4” QBs (have to get them in the first two rounds)

Rather have McCord or even Gabriel as a late round flyer…… not as the obvious QB of the future, but just to see …..
Actually, I was really attempting a lame joke at the name "Kyle".

Yeah, he is a big stout kid with strong arm. As you say, why not.

Probably worth taking a flyer on a QB kid like that every other draft. Might strike gold at the key position.

Giants GM said he was out of patience….which means desperate measures…..and they are only giving up 1 first round pick. Moving up this year.

Raiders I agree with, but don’t think Brady and Davis are desperate.
Don't know about Brady, but the Davis guy is an 1800 pound grouper waiting to be hooked.

Doubtful that Amy can bait the hook correctly

Lmao. He’s still mentally weak. Reads self help books on the sidelines. Yells at his coach while his team is dominating in the Super Bowl. AJ Brown didn’t win the Super Bowl for the Eagles. He just happened to be on the team.

O wow! He reads self help books! Sure am glad we don’t have anyone with a desire to be better on our team. Wouldn’t want that

I’m telling ya…..signing him is a genius move for the Titans.

Nobody in the league would know if he’s being signed to be the starter for the next two years, just a bridge QB until next years draft, or as a veteran backup to mentor Ward/Sanders

Trade value goes up when nobody else knows what you really want in the draft…..

And …..Winston is better than we’ve seen in the last four years around here.
Yes, I've said this from the beginning, if you enter the draft needing a QB you have given your leverage away. You go into the draft with as many options as possible and one hell of a poker face. Not a great year for trading back partners but someone wants to move up. Take advantage and stack picks.

I think it's a solid year for trading back. Raiders, Giants, and arguably the Browns all need QBs. Someone will fall in love with either Sanders or Ward.

AJ is a classic case of a 'front runner' athlete.

The titans aren't a front running team.

His effort/results for Titans would have definitely been different than what we saw with eagles.

So we have roughly 50 million in cap space. I figure the following players are virtual locks to get cut/traded:

Hooker
Murray
Key (post June 1 designation)
Burks (hopefully find a trade partner willing to give us a 7th rounder here so he can sit on their IR for 80% of the season, but either way he is gone)
NPF

Then we have several roster filler players like Mason Kinsey making around 1 million that will also be cut.

That is over 30 million in additional cap space and potentially closer to 35 million additional if we can find a sucker to trade for Burks. So we should have close to 85 million in cap space to spend this off-season. Which is good, because we will have to overpay to get the top FAs to come here.

#1 need has to be OL. Trey Smith is the cream of the crop here. He's a local legend and fills a huge need. He makes by far the most sense for us among all FAs. Mekhi Becton would be also be preferable since he has experience at Tackle.

#2 need is QB. Regardless what we decide to do with the No. 1 overall pick, we have got to sign a NFL starting caliber QB in free agency. Even Winston would be fine. But we have to add a starting caliber QB before the draft.

#3 need is gonna be defense in general. DL and CBs are solid, but we have no linebackers and no safeties that are above average NFL starters. Honestly, the linebacker core is the worst in the NFL by a decent margin. Dre Greenlaw tops the list here as the #1 off ball linebacker in FA. Nick Bolton would be my #2 option. We also need an Edge to pair with Landry, but solid Edge Rushers are pretty plentiful in the FA market. I'd honestly be fine with someone like Barnett for Edge.

#4 need is offensive weapons. Ridley and Pollard were our best offensive player and they were both just sort of average for their position. What's worse is that no one else came remotely close to matching their production. We will get linked to Tee Higgins for his connection to Callahan. But I don't see anyone outbidding the Pats for him.

Why wouldn’t we keep Hooker?

Big name/pricey free agents are for when you are a player or two away. The Titans simply have to ace the draft for the next couple years or they will remain a bad team. They have to build with young players on rookie deals to get the foundation in place and get the ship righted. They can't be drafting the Levis and Burks anymore. I am all for trading back and getting solid starters to build around and a good FA QB. The expectation for me has to be showing steady progress over the next couple years and a playoff win within 3 years.

Because he fairly expensive and a mediocre starter that can be replaced pretty easily. Safety is position you can find quality players at for pretty affordable rates. Look at Byard, who signed with Chicago last year for 2/15. Or Justin Simmons. Or Kamren Curl.

I agree if the price is wrong to let him go. But we need average starters right now.

Given his high INT number last season, you may be right and the money may not be right. INTs and sacks are never numbers you can’t to pay big money for because they’re variable
