The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

No, I think he was a miss. That’s a big part of what put us in this hole too. Missing on 3 straight first round picks (Wilson, Farley, and Burks). You would’ve expected at least 1 average starter in that group
I kinda figured Farley was gonna be a whiff, but I thought Burks would be a darn good player. Good thing I am not an NFL scout.

I think Burks issue is been strictly health/availability. I think he'll be overshadowed by the other receivers this year but look much better in the looks/touches he gets.

Having that stable of talent around him takes so much pressure off him...... But severely limits his touches
He needs this reset to prove he is not a whiff. Being a back up/4th option will do him good. Never know when an injury will push you into starting and needing to perform at a higher level. Hope he does well knowing that D-Hop and/or Boyd could be gone after this season.

Plus a more limited role will give him a chance to get healthier. The potential is there, he just has to live up to it.

Agree. I think his time at Arky took a lot out of him and he broke down early as a pro. Arky rode him like a packed mule during those years.

Either way I didn't see him getting another contact with the Titans. He needs this rest to get him another chance to land on a roster with a starting role

I’m surprised there’s still this much hope for Burks. I think he washes out of the league within the next 3-4 years honestly. Dude has shown absolutely nothing.

And I don’t think it gets magically better in a more pass friendly offense. Even if he does start looking like an even average player, he will just be injured by halfway through the season.

I am just going by what D-Hop said about Burks in that story.

Just spitballin' here. PFR has him as a trade deadline candidate. However, if he proves valuable is it not likely they keep him for the slot since Boyd is on a one year and getting late in his career? He could then back up as a possession guy outside. All of it would be subject to injuries and performance of course.

It would be a $4.6 cap hit and all dead money for the 4th year. Twice as much as Boyd's contract per Spotrac. I just think the story has not been written yet. Will see what happens.

From Bill Barnwell (ESPN) - I cut some of the filler material:

The superlative: Team most likely to talk itself into its starting quarterback breaking out after a few preseason snaps

My guess for the quarterback who gets that sort of hype after limited work in the preseason this year is Will Levis, who didn't show a lot in the snaps that mattered in 2023. He completed just 58.1% of his passes and averaged 7.1 yards per attempt while taking sacks on 9.9% of his dropbacks. Even those numbers were inflated some by garbage time; his 29.1 QBR (which is situation-adjusted) after taking over ranked 30th out of 33 qualifying passers. Only Tommy DeVito, Bailey Zappe and Trevor Siemian were worse. Levis was basically a disaster when pressured. His 8.9 QBR ranked 28th, while his completion percentage over expected (CPOE) was minus-20.7%. Siemian was the only passer worse under pressure over the second half of the season, by CPOE.

To be fair, I'm not sure many quarterbacks would have succeeded behind that Tennessee offensive line. It'll be easy to tell yourself a story that Levis will be way better in 2024, in part because his surroundings will actually be much improved.

Of course, that's also what organizations need to fall in love with a player who wasn't very good the previous season.

People still need convincing that Justin Herbert is good too. Levis will get this season to show he is the guy. If not, will the Titans be bad enough to draft one of the top guys? And are they a vast upgrade? Ewers, Beck, Milroe...I am not really sold on any of them.

Ehhhh...I'm not so sure about that comparison. When dealing with Herbert there's questions about "how" good he is but c'mon. Herbert's averaged 278ypg and 28td's a season with a career 95.7 rating. There is no "is he good" at this point. The only thing we know for sure about Levis is he needs to improve or he'll be replaced.
