The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

It's also possible that a Cowboys trade for #1 overall doesn't include Dak. They could still make the trade for #1 overall, giving up 3 1st round picks in the process, plus more. Then they wait till June 1 and look to trade Dak to an AFC team like the Raiders or Colts in order to soften the dead cap hit and recoup some of their lost draft capital. They would surely get a 1st and 2nd rounder for Dak from 1 of those teams.

For the Titans, it sets us up very well for a rebuild with 2 1st round picks in each of the next 2 years, with the likelihood of those being early picks too. And it gives us ammunition to potentially move up in the 2026 draft for a QB, when the QB class should be much better.

There are maybe 10-12 you can win you a Super Bowl.

Then, there is the other 20

People on here have informed me both Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott are not capable. It’s the same trash mentality that claimed before this year that Ryan Day can’t win a NC

I think those two are both capable. Lamar is in his prime. Wouldn't shock me to see him win this year.

I'm an old AFC guy, so rarely watch Dak. But know that Jerry Jones is a difficult boss.

In that case, I would love if the Titans could get Trey Lance in a deal.... He has expiring deal and still relatively young QB. But of course, he'd be going from somewhat top offensive minds to Callahan who has the IQ of a monkey on offense. Not sure a project QB for a tank year would work.

As much as I wish it could all work out exactly like I envisioned months ago..............I didn't think about this.

It's a $100 million dead cap hit for Dallas if Dak is traded. Even Jerry Jones ain't that stewpid.

so close...............

I don't see anyone giving up a first round pick for Dak at his age and coming off a season-ending injury and sporting that albatross of a contract.

He finished 2nd in MVP voting a year ago. At 32 years old, that should still give him another 5 years (maybe more) of top 10 play. Also, the guaranteed portion of his contract ends after 2025 and the Cowboys are on the hook for all of the signing bonus, whether he's on their team or not. His non guaranteed base salary is 40, 45, 55 million from 2026 - 2028.

The Raiders are pretty desperate to be relevant in an AFC West that is insanely tough. Colts would bite too.

1. The Cowboys would never make that trade due to the cap ramifications. But if they did, we wouldn't owe him 60/year.

2. Peyton had the choke label until he didn't. The Cowboys as a whole are a mess and have been since the mid 90s. It's unfair to put it all on him. He's also balled out in a few playoff games but the defense let him down.

3. Dak would instantly be the best QB we've ever seen.
No, you're getting setting sun Dak. Think Steve McNair his last couple of season with the Titans.

To add he always seems to have a good season followed by a bad season. He's also been injured quite a bit over the last 4 seasons.

He's not worth that contract.

I agree 100%. They should have let him play out the season. Jerry would have looked fairly smart that way. Now...just looks stupider.

In a year or two, you won’t bat an eye at that contract
That's in a year or two though. We're talking right now........ And it's a 4 year contract you're saddling yourself to for a bridge QB. Nobody thinks he's the franchise 2 or 3 years from now. He's on his way to ageing out.

We have money right now. And idk why anyone wouldn’t expect him to still be one of the top QBs 2-3 years from now.

He’s 31.

Name the top 5 QB's in the NFL right now

Edit to add:

Just to speed this up he's in decline, injuries piling up. He might be just sneaking into the back end of the top 5...... But he's headed the wrong direction and he's the highest paid QB. And he's 32, not 31 with a lot of wear and tear.

What we need is a bridge QB.

Do you have to be top 5 to be a franchise QB or to win a Super Bowl?

Also PFF had him at 6 coming into the season

No, but if you're the highest paid QB right now you better the one of the very best......... And he isn't.

See my edit for further clarification.

The point is you can win and get similar results with a much cheaper bridge QB which is what we need. We don't need to take Dallas's QB problem of their own creation off their hands so they can retool.

If they agree to tote a significant portion of his contract then fine. But he's not attractive at that number with our needs, at least IMO.

You think Deion would sign off on his son sitting a year....... If I'm Deion I would. This league has churned and burned more highly touted prospects than his son.

Maybe sitting and learning the offense/how to be a pro is the way to go.

In two years you’ll be looking at needing a new contract. It’s up in 2028. Paying A+ money for a B qb was dumb on Jerry.

But Dak also has a no trade clause in his contract so all of this is likely moot.
