The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Should have traded him 2-3 years ago and got something for him.

What were you really expecting for a late 20's RB making 16 million per year? Even one as good as Henry?

3 years ago we were the best team in the AFC. 2 years ago we were leading the division until the last week of the season. We weren't trading during either of those seasons. So the soonest we would have traded him was March 2023. I would be surprised if even a 4th rounder was attainable by then. A McCaffrey type of trade (who was 26 when it went down) just wasn't going to happen.

His first year struggling in this offense I said as much and everyone was giving me hell for it. It was obvious to see it wasn't going to get better in a year or two.
I don't ever recall Derrick Henry ever "struggling" as a Titan. His first year a Titans he ran for over 1500 yards and over 5 YPC.

The odds of finding a franchise QB outside of the first round are overwhelmingly small.

The best course of action this off-season should be sign a FA/trade for a starter. Justin Fields and Sam Darnold top the list here, which isn't inspiring, but beats the hell out of our current options.

This QB class is just very mediocre.

I think the depth of this class is solid. I agree it’s mediocre in terms of elite talent, but I think you could find a starter.

And I’m with you on retreads being a solid option. I was a huge fan this off season of what the Steelers did for example. They got two guys with potential high end outcomes incredibly cheap.

Listening to all the idiots calling in Nashville Sports Radio complaining that Levis needs more time is hilarious

He still averaged over 4 YPC and had almost 1200 yards. Also good enough for 2nd in the league in rushing yards. If that's a struggle that just shows how good he actually was....well, is.

His YPC were below league average. I’d agree with you that he has always been above average, but yes. He struggled here his last season due to the blocking. 4.2 ypc isn’t very good

Could have easily gotten a 2nd and a 4th, maybe even a 2nd and 3rd for him last year.

Leading the AFC South is just being the best of the worst.

I didn't say he wasn't good, what I was saying is we didn't have the line or the QB for him and us to be successful, he was getting beat up. It wasn't working, for him or for us.

If we could have gotten that for him, we would have. Old, expensive RBs just don't have much value, especially considering the position as a whole has been devalued. Even ones with as great a career as Henry as had. The risk of them getting injured or losing a step is just too high for teams to invest that much into.

It was reported that there was a trade in place and Amy nixed the deal. Terms of the reported trade, that I don't know but what I do know is that in the end the Titans got nothing for him when they (reportedly) could have gotten something.

If true and we were offered anything less than a 4th round pick, then I am glad Adams nixed the deal. Trading a franchise icon for a late 5th round pick (or worse) is a terrible way to do business. Unless of course Henry asked to be traded (which I doubt).

The Titans would have at least gotten something for him. Nixing the deal they got zip, that is a terrible way to do business.

I’m a bit sentimental when it comes to elite vets. If didn’t want to be traded, I get it.

One year he was coming off season ending foot surgery...last year the OL couldn't block a 1 legged grandmother....Still can't. There was zero fault in Henry...he just played for a ****** team. He now is shinning playing with a team that actually cares about competing for championships. Good for Henry!

It's sends a terrible message to the players in the locker room and potential free agents that's you are willing to treat an franchise icon like that. Not to mention the fans.

Gettinga 5th rounder back (or worse) for Henry would have been a terrible business decision all around, unless Henry wanted to be traded.
