The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

It's sends a terrible message to the players in the locker room and potential free agents that's you are willing to treat an franchise icon like that. Not to mention the fans.

Gettinga 5th rounder back (or worse) for Henry would have been a terrible business decision all around, unless Henry wanted to be traded.

Bullshat. It's a business. The Titans did what crap franchises do by getting no assets.

The Packers traded Favre, got compensation and kept him out of NFC (for at least a year)

Favre wanted to be traded. So did Rodgers. If Henry wanted to be traded, I doubt Adams would have stood in the way (if this story is even true).

It isn't "just business." Good franchises realize that optics matter, and doing right your franchise icon is more important than getting than a late round draft pick who likely will be a long shot to be on the team in 2-3 years.

Favre didnt want to be traded. The Packers were tired of his annual retirement crap. Rodgers was a mutual decision since the Packers werent going to let him be GM. The Patriots had no issue trading cornerstones.

It's why the Pats have won 6 Super Bowls, the Packers have been a perennial playoff team for 30 years and the Titans are the Titans....

I’m expecting the Lions to outplay the outmatched Titans on Sunday in Detroit Rock City because the Lions have the objective get the number 1 Seed aka home field advantage for the 2024 NFL Playoffs so them reaching the Super Bowl is most favorable than having to play any road games.

Since Titans management will see they need to rebuild the WR brigade including get a Reliable Deep threat equal to AJ Brown, Justin Jefferson, Julio Jones, etc is why I want the Lions to defeat the Titans this Sunday, along with the Titans losing more than 12 games.

Short term pain for long term gain.

The Titans in 2018 to 2021 had a very realistic chance of winning 9 games or higher plus scoring over 17 points in most games because of having a badass brawny RB Derrick the Destroyer Henry or Dynamite Derreck, also the very reliable deep threat WR AJ Brown, and a solid brigade of other WRs.
Aldo Tannehill was a reliable QB after having the confidence of a very solid supporting team that could also carry the team so he greatly thrived after finding greener grass in the music city.

Getting what we can in draft capital, at this point it's the correct move.

We need to move another player or two if we can. Trade back in the first round this year, get our right tackle and go all in next year for the QB of our choice.

Yes, Favre did want to be traded. He outright asked for his release before he was ever traded.

The Pats won 6 SBs because they had Tom Brady. They went directly into irrelevancy once he left NE. And they also didn't trade off any franchise "cornerstones" for late round draft picks. The best you could argue was trading Vrabel to the Chiefs, but that resulted in a 2nd round pick.

There isnt one player who as a free agent who thinks Im going to TN because they "did D. Henry right". Not one. Ill take it a step further, they probably lost free agents over the years because they didnt "do right by the players" by giving them a playing surface with a track record of significantly more leg injuries...

Word gets around the league. There are tons of instances of teams doing players dirty and losing out on FAs because of it. It probably happens every single year.

I know at least one former player who can back up that statement. He played under Josh McDaniels in Denver on special teams. He said the guy was a prick. Said most of the team disliked the guy. He also said he had a couple of former teammates called him to ask how him what it was like playing under McDaniels and he told them point blank to go somewhere else if they had an offer.

Derrick Henry has a lot of influence around the league. If you think his opinion is irrelevant among his NFL peers, you simply aren't paying attention.

How does optics matter in professional sports? Players are going to play for whomever gives them the best deal and a chance to win so I can't see how trading Henry would have hurt them. Keeping him and getting nothing when he left sure hasn't helped.

Personality conflicts, having a prick for a HC is entirely different than making smart personnel decisions. Players understand business decisions.

This is how you get back where you need to be. Through the draft. Build the foundation. Get you the right QB in a year or two and start to compete.
