The same thing you said about TE's is said about RB's, until they draft a Henry or Barkley.

You find a generational player at many of the positions, you draft him in the first round if you have the opportunity. In the case of an O scheme, you design the scheme to fully take advantage of the generational talent(s). Just like this Titans org did with Henry. Just like Harbaugh would have done with Bowers with the Chargers. You then add talent to the scheme that fits the design.

Titans and Raiders are 2-8 teams. One has a generational talent, the other does not. Neither has a QB. Will see how it goes from here.

That's simply the value of these positions. I don't know what else to tell you. RBs are not highly valued. Neither are TEs. Teams are literally telling us that by how they draft them and how they pay for them when they reach free agency. It's simply far easier to find average or better production at these positions from anywhere in the draft or in free agency. So the risk for someone like Bowers is really high, because he has to basically be a HOF caliber tight end in order to make the pick worth the investment. Anything less is basically a waste of a top 10 pick.

Henry was a 2nd round RB by the way. So I am not sure how he supports your argument.

And the Giants were drug through the coals for taking a RB at No. 2 overall in the draft. Barkley is EXACTLY the reason why you don't make these sort of picks with a top 10 pick. Barkley has been good, but not amazing. Certainly he has not been worthy of the 2nd overall pick in the draft. The Giants could have drafted Nick Chubb in round 2 and would have gotten equal production to what Barkley has given thus far. The Giants ended up passing on Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson to take a RB they felt wasn't even worthy of a 2nd contract.

The running back is coming out of a downward trend IMO. They haven't been value greatly because if the emphasis put into the pass game. But defenses have adjusted, pushing numbers are down, TE and running back numbers are starting to trend back up and so will their contacts.

I don't agree.

The emphasis of devaluing these positions isn't really correlated on their usage. It's about the fact that teams are finding it a lot easier to find valuable players at these positions, either in the draft or free agency. And if you notice, more and more teams have gravitated to more of a multiple RB style, which devalues these players even more. Bell cow RBs who take 90% of the carries have largely gone the way of the dinosaur. If anything, I think you are going to see more McCaffrey/Kamara/Debo type of RBs/gadget players going forward, who will consistently line up out wide to run routes and also take carries too.

I mean we just signed Ridley to 4 years and 92 million, who was 29 years old and injured or suspended for most of the last 3 seasons coming into this year. His contract would represent the highest total value contact ever for tight end or RB.
