The Official Tennessee vs. #15 Kentucky Game Thread, 1:00 PM ET, CBS

I am not suprised about a drop off. There is no excuse for Tennessee to at least be in the running for an NCAA bid every year. Barnes has just not gotten it done this year. I am not saying he should be fired either. He has a good crew coming in next year. So hopefully things will get better.

Kentucky played better . Shot better .. they are quicker in back court .. they are difficult to stay in front of period . And they made tough shots when the shot clock was expiring.. they just played better .. we dont have a physical player inside and our guards are slow .. bottom line .. Ky is better and played better .

You are correct the last second shots at end of shot clock after we played great D were killers and when they missed it went right to one of their guys for a put back. That was the big killer & refs were not calling consistent. Like 2 different set of refs each half. Weird guess coach or someone got in their ear.

You’re giving KY way too much credit. Sure they’ll make it to the dance. But they’re not good enough to get 2 wins in it.
Well they have 3 Athletic get to the rim guards that all 3 shoot 80 plus from free throw line and a big who as well is playing at AA level and will be top 20 pick in draft so yes they can make it to final 4. To your point they could also get bounced in round of 32.

Not sure what you expected him to do with this roster. Now if we were talking about some of his recruiting decisions, we'd have something to discuss, but he's not going to make this bunch an NCAAT team.

He is responsible for the roster. He has been here 5 years. No excuse to be this limited talent wise. He has had some bad luck with injuries this year.

Did they ever mention that our only 5 star recruit was injured and unavailable to play? If they did, I missed it.

Honestly, if Grant and Bone come back our roster is built to win big this year, especially with a healthy Turner and healthy James. Maybe Barnes should’ve seen Grant leaving early given Grant was SEC POY his So season but who in the world would think Bone would’ve left early after his So year (heading into Jr season)? I didn’t even think he would after his Jr year but I wasn’t looking at other potential PGs coming out last year vs this year and I’m sure he was.

I'm still surprised Bone left. I'm not sure it was a wise decision on his part.

UK commits 16 fouls in the first half, and ends the game with 21. I'm sure that was due solely to halftime adjustments. I do believe that, although the adjustments were made to the refs. I imagine they got "the call" from someone at the office.
Do you wear aluminum foil on your head?

Well stated. No way Coach Barnes could have known Bone would leave early. His recruiting was correct. After Bone’s announcement, it was too late into the recruiting cycle to scramble around and find a suitable replacement. We were also set with Turner to provide spot PG action,
This season is what it is. Santiago is playing well enough that had Grant returned making the Big Dance would have been a certainty.

We just don't have the offensive firepower to stay with fast paced teams like Georgia and Kentucky.

Fulkerson played a solid game and Pons shone on blocking shots.

Kentucky is not so much fast-paced this year. Many times today the shot clock was stretched to the end. They were fairly deliberate, although very talented as usual.

You all feel good since you finally won a game in Knoxville don’t you? It took our worst team in a decade to make it happen

UT cared way more about it than UK fans. Didnt even realize it was 5 years. But yeah feels good after those rough years with Grant and Admiral.

Obviously it’s a “big” deal to beat a blue blood In basketball, Just like it’s a big deal for UK to beat the VOLS in football because we “ expect to win that game every year
