The Official Tennessee vs. #3 Florida Game Thread, 7:00pm ET, ESPN

We'll kill a sub-par team, win/lose by 20 against a mediocre team, and barely get beat by a top 25 team. If we make it to the tourny we're a 1st or 2nd round team at best.

I think we expected so much this year and it's frustrated us all.

I miss the Pearl years, watch the Martin years, and long for the future years. - Satch

7 for 24 FG% in the 2nd half. That really sums it up. This team lost because they can't shoot the ball. Been an issue for years at UT; we seem to recruit streak shooters who have their moments but when the game is on the line; they fold.

You don't agree that Maymon was about useless on the offensive end tonight?

Your previous post said "threat" and that's a big difference. Maymon can score, he has scored. Donovan knows he can/has score/d, you put Davis or Reese in there, they are gonna double Stokes, their gonna make MCRae's life hell and let the chips fall...we would have gotten blown out of our gym.

Maymon may not have cost us the game, but in the final 7 minutes he kept us from winning it. He was a negative figure stat-wise in that time frame. More TO's than pts., assists, rebounds and had a shot or 2 blocked. I definitely think Edwards would have been a better option.

Stokes can hit the 15 foot shot. Plus, I am pretty sure Maymon missed a pass across the lane from Stokes. I would take Moore on offense but he would have been handled on defense.

We'll just have to agree to disagree I guess. Continually going to Maymon when he turned it over 9 out of 10 times was obviously not working. We'll never know if something else would have worked because he never tried anything else. Is it not painfully obvious that Cuonzo is not going to get it done here? I mean the excuses have about dried up. It's going to be worse next year. Recruiting is average at best.

We'll never know because he didn't try anything else. Donovan played Maymon straight up. The same way he'd have played anyone. He never was double teamed.

I don't agree that they strictly went to Maymon. Except for the one possession I remember down one, they went to Stokes. A couple of times, Stokes either got doubled or drew a defender and gave it up to Maymon. He missed or fumbled. The play was not drawn up for Maymon. Stokes did exactly what he was supposed to do.

I agree that some coaching has been suspect. I have always said, even after UTEP, that I will wait and see. I just want to make the tournament and deal with coaching later. It's not changing now. I just think its easy to blame coaching when people want to pile on. I know many of us have watched for a long time, but tonight was mostly execution and players having to make plays. Coach put them in position- they just failed.

Davis was in the game. He got 1 rebound. He had 1 TO. He played 9 minutes. I watched him, the lights were too bright...

Yes he did ...straight up...and if Maymon was out of the game, his defender would be worried about Davis not at all.

Done - can't take it anymore.
Unless the players have pony tails, I am not watching anymore Vols basketball this year.

I watched it twice. Stokes scores and gets the foul placing the Young with 4 fouls. The next two times down the court the ball went to the Maymon through Stokes each time. No double teams on Stokes. It looked like called set plays to me.

Davis was not in the game when it mattered. And Davis is not the only option either. And if he was the only option that that's on Cuonzo too because he recruited the bench. Maymon was and he turned it over almost every possession that the ball went to him. I'm not discussing this further it's obvious it's not going anywhere. :hi:

Fair enough, I'll leave you with this...if you're 12 year old kid's team is playing for the title, are you going to take someone off the bench and replace her with a less experienced, unproven player at crunch time after you played her earlier and she did nothing? Appreciated the fair debate. :hi:

That's funny cause I have coached twelve year olds and I have done exactly that when the player was having a terrible game. Many times when one of your best players are pressing they hurt the team more than they help. You pull them to get their head clear and put them back in hoping they get under control. Also, you have a brief moment to see if the light comes on for the less experienced player. Also, there are other line ups other than Davis that I think would have been productive.

He, Davis, got his moment. I love Moore, love the energy. He played 11 minutes, 1 block and 2 RB's. Edwards, Pops have had moments through the season to earn some trust. The light coming on means production, as a coach, you know that. Maymon makes the pass to Stokes and Stokes converts maybe the game turns out differently. It's basketball.

He's payed big $$$ to put a team on the floor that can at a minimum make the dance. Whether it's recruiting, player development, scheme, in game management or motivation he's ultimately responsible and he's not getting it done. It's my opinion he's been underwhelming in virtually all of those categories. It's inevitable that he will be relieved of his duties, the question is when? This is the case whether he makes the tournament this year or not.

I agree with you regarding his job description. Maymon is a senior, McRae is a senior and Barton (who played better tonight than he has in a long time) is a senior. They haven't been leaders this year, 2 out of the three have underperformed. I don't think Maymon is what people thought he would be, though he gave a tremendous effort tonight, and I was screaming at the tv on every turnover/missed bunny. Barton is not better than Golden by much if at all. People expected one thing and have gotten something else.

I think Martin should have started the second half with Barton, the time out he called after the 3...maybe...with four minutes to go we had a shot against the number 3 team in the country...players got to make plays.

Seriously? Some how I just feel you would never say it to his face.

Didn't say the guy couldn't beat me up in a fight, just that he is a very overrated basketball player. That guy could probably take a lot of people in a fight, but that is irrelevant to my point.

I thought Young had a solid game. He might have been soft a couple years ago, but soft players don't win loose balls like the one he won near the end of the game.

Where he was laying out of bounds by the way and the refs ate their whistles.
