The Official Tennessee vs. Alabama Game Thread, 3:30pm ET (03/15/13), ESPNU

That all just frustration talking. we still love them and will cheer them on in the NIT

Lunardi is not the committee just to let you know. The guy is wrong every year I don't know why people drool over everything the man says. Vols lose to Georgia and are in but beat Missouri and Auburn and are out??????????

I'm lost when that guy says anything

What in the world is Lunardi thinking? Virginia, Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee, and Alabama all ahead of us? Sorry, but they don't have the resume that we have.

12 losses and only 1 win against a team that is currently ranked is not an impressive resume.

Moreover, we lost to UVA and Ole Miss (twice to Ole Miss).

The fact that Tennessee will be hoping to get into a 68-team field is pathetic. Five years ago, and this Tennessee team would not be in the discussion and would be hoping for a good draw in the NIT.

Sthu. We beat the hoyas were in. Simple as that.

Really, throwing this on Pearl?

Pearl was a great coach. But face it - he hit a dud from this bunch. Trae is the most erratic ballplayer we've ever had. Took a while for McRae to get good, and I credit Cuonzo for that. Hall is a waste. Many other players play very good D but suck shooting the ball. And Skyler - dear, dear, Skyler. What more can I say about Mr. McBrick?

Pearl just crapped out with his last bunch.

I know but don't act like the vols are hoping or begging for nothing. The brackets will play itself out.

No, they are hoping and begging for inclusion in a 68-team field; they would not be under consideration for inclusion in the tourney five years ago.

The resume is not very good. As I said, they have one really good win (Florida), and that is their only win against a ranked opponent. Moreover, UT benefited from the SEC Scheduling BS this season and only had to play UF once.

Sure, if UT would have beaten GTOWN or Oklahoma State or Memphis or UVA, the conversation might be different. Hell, if UT would have just won one game against UGA (instead of dropping two to that God-awful team), then UT might slip into the field of 68 (I cannot imagine that would put them in a field of 64, though).

One thing that Pearl always had was incredible tempo. No way that Golden would have been as timid with Pearl (Ramar was out of control, but he never just sat around thirty-five feet from the basket doing nothing). Pearl lived and died by pushing his teams to play uptempo basketball for forty minutes, pressing, and driving to the rim (a lot of time recklessly driving, but that also led to a lot of second-chance points at the rim). And, one thing Pearl was very good at was set plays. His teams scored on inbounds plays and on plays coming out of timeouts. That does not happen with Martin's teams.

These players certainly do not fit Martin's system; but, I am not even sure what Martin's system is. It is a one-dimensional, half-court man defense and then a stagnant offense. If there is more to it that we will see once Martin has his guys, then I really hope he gets his guys soon. If not, he needs to pack his **** and it is not a personnel problem; it is a coaching problem.

Lol. I hope you are right.

I'm right there with you and I don't mean to come, actually yes I do. I do mean to come across as a punk.

UT blew their chances tonight and that's the story. The Vols just lost to bammer. Lets just let the commission determine if they think the Vols should be included in the field of 68. I believe they should but I'm very biased. If their left out then maybe you are right. But begging and hoping to be in the field when we obviously just lost isn't something I do.

The 68-vs-64 team field point is a good one. We wouldn't be in the conversation if it were still 64 (technically it was 65 wasn't it?).

However we didn't luck out in the SEC scheduling. Ole Miss is good for the first time in forever, and we had to play them twice, and twice early on when they were playing well. We had to play Georgia and Kentucky and Vandy twice too.

So playing UK and Ole Miss twice isn't very lucky IMO.

Bama leap frog a bunch of teams for beating a bubble team, stfu Dykes. I just don't understand, this game is no different than regular season. WHOLE BODY OF WORK.

No different? Teams play their way into the dance every year with conference tourneys.

If you're a bubble team, you simply MUST win at least a couple of games in your own conference tournament.

You're right about it being the whole body of work, though; that's the point. If you lose your first game your body of work comes to a screeching halt, while other bubble teams continue adding to their resume/body of work.

Essentially what happened today was Bama took the spot previously held by UT. Today was a must-win for both teams.
