I really believe he felt Grice was just totally gassed at that point, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think he was at 113 pitches at that point. I think he was looking out for the health of his player as well.Yeah, Coach Bakich could be this week's poster boy for "Life Is Unfair Awareness." After Clemson fans look at the stats from the game, by default they're gonna blame coaching.
If you watch his postgame presser, his decisions were well-reasoned and supported by the facts as he had them. They just didn't turn out. I found it sad to watch; he just sounded beat up and looked shell shocked.
Especially given what a good season Clemson has had, it will be very interesting which way they approach today's game: do they gamble that they can beat Charlotte while saving their best available pitcher for a rematch with Tennessee tonight, or go all out against Charlotte as a "no tonight" must win?
No pitch count matters. All pitchers are different. Most can only pitch like 30-35 for 2 in a row. Only 2 or 3 of there guys probably want feel comfortable going again today. So I’m new to the rules of college baseball, is there a pitch limit that pitchers have to pitch before they are unavailable the next day? Or how does that work since Clemson used 10 pitchers yesterday? Which ones of them are available for their noon game and then our game?
I remember their coach saying that they seldom let their pitchers get to 100 pitches, and noted that Grice was at 113. How can you fault a college coach for allowing that much situational flexibility, but still "erring" on the side of guarding his player's future?I really believe he felt Grice was just totally gassed at that point, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think he was at 113 pitches at that point. I‘m also curious about how he handles his pitching. I love our pitching depth and tonight and moving forward in this regional will highlight our advantages.
This time of year it's common to pitch higher numbers of pitches . Over the course of the season it would be very hard on a pitcher probably would be shut down by tournament time.I remember their coach saying that they seldom let their pitchers get to 100 pitches, and noted that Grice was at 113. I hope their fans are a classy to him as they were to their visitors. Not sure how many of ours would be, if the situation was reversed.
Had the throw the race card out there huh?Who was the announcer with Kyle Peterson last night? Was it Tom Hart? Kudos to them for calling out the NCAA for overreacting to the 2022 Tennessee team and addressing “problems that didn’t exist.”
That Clemson kid shouldn’t have been ejected last night, but they’re right…that’s fallout from the crusty old white men’s scared reaction to 2022 Tennessee.
Disagree. He specifically had been warned already then said stuff and got in a player's face. Should have been gone. But I think we deserved a lot of what we got last year and I can see why it continued into this year.Who was the announcer with Kyle Peterson last night? Was it Tom Hart? Man, so proud of our guys. We played our guts out even though we didn’t get the breaks for most of the game. We persevered and never gave up. I like the way we kept our composure during the entire game. I thought the Clemson guys were pretty salty several times, but we handled ourselves so well. What a game!
Another way of looking at the ejection: once the ump has given both teams a warning (if that's what happened) the die is cast, any grace is locked away, and the players own their tongues from that point on.Who was the announcer with Kyle Peterson last night? Yeah, I was listening to the Tony Basillio show last night, a lot of fans that called in were saying the Clemson fans were jerks. I guess it depends on where you sat.Ya'll were not sitting near the family section. The Clemson fans around the family section were jerks. There were almost 2 brawls when they said stuff directly about players. I never understand why UT or any other school does not segregate the opposing families and have the best security guard in the place between them and the home fans. Stop all the trash about particular players toward parents. When you trash a kid to their family, it's own. Then it gets interesting real fast.
All the Clemson people I know personally are great people, but they think UT fans are pretty bad. Must be an Orange Bowl thing.
No way you throw that player out of the game in that situation for what he did. He did not get in anyone’s face and the umpire might have been the only person in the stadium that even knew words were exchanged. I do find it ironic that the kid was ejected by rules put in place in reaction to UT’s behavior last year. Indiana also had a player ejected for bringing a prop onto the field. Starting 2nd baseman. Another rule in place because of UT’s action last season.Disagree. He specifically had been warned already then said stuff and got in a player's face. Should have been gone. Oh yeah- I live here. They’re still as salty as can be about that beatdown.Ya'll were not sitting near the family section. The Clemson fans around the family section were jerks. According to stats WillisWG posted last night, you are wrong--about being wrong.I don't remember any errors (on the players at least) by either side. I could be wrong and usually am.
LOL. Ever been to a game in Knoxville as an opposing fan?Ya'll were not sitting near the family section. The Clemson fans around the family section were jerks. I'm really curious about this.LOL. Ever been to a game in Knoxville as an opposing fan?
You are correct. I believe alcohol fuels much of the vitriol towards opposing fans and game day experiences in all sports would be much better if alcohol were completely banned. THAT IS JUST MY OPINION.I'm really curious about this.
A question specifically to anyone who's been attending Tennessee games (of any well-attended sport) for 50 years or more:
From your experience, has trash talking behavior changed over the past 50 years? In public, are we coarser in our language, less considerate of others, or is it just that my memories have become selective?
