May have a point there, I don't know. Here is the list of names who served on the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee to set rules for 2023-24:Who else is in charge?
Especially given what a good season Clemson has had, it will be very interesting which way they approach today's game: do they gamble that they can beat Charlotte while saving their best available pitcher for a rematch with Tennessee tonight, or go all out against Charlotte as a "no tonight" must win?
Kudos to NCAA for a rule that makes sense: you win the challenge, you keep your challenge. How many times did the first base ump get over ruled on replay? He was a definite Clemson homer. We would not have won without replay.
Much coarser now.I'm really curious about this.
A question specifically to anyone who's been attending Tennessee games (of any well-attended sport) for 50 years or more:
From your experience, has trash talking behavior changed over the past 50 years? In public, are we coarser in our language, less considerate of others, or is it just that my memories have become selective?
Clemson holding back their best remaining pitcher, Darden, for tonight. That is a hell of a lot of confidence they have that they will win today. Hope they lose.
That's awesomeCool story bro:
Still on the road working in Huntsville. Have my youngest son with me, whom I've turned into a rabid baseball aficionado now. We are both repping our Vollie Finger jerseys on a quick Walmart run before the action today.
A lovely lady stopped us in the produce aisle and says, "Kirby fans?" I'm like, woah....how do know Kirby.
"My son played with him."
Wow...who's your son?
"Blade," (she shoulda dropped the mic right there,) "Tidwell."
Such a pleasant lady and an awesome meeting. I'm happy to report he's still getting paid to play a kids game.
Best of luck to him and his family. Made our day.
I haven’t been following the baseball team closely but jumping on the band bandwagon. Is Beam our pitcher tonight and who is likely coming out of the bullpen? What if there is another game who would go?
It seems reasonable to me that the Lady Vols coaches would assume they could not beat the OU machine the first time they go up against them. But if you and your players have agreed that the team goal is to play to win the national championship, then strategic planning is called for, and the "indirect approach" certainly has historic recommendation. It will be interesting to see how they play this. They definitely have a big challenge.
The tale of two games is very interesting. Lady Vols did not use their aces in the loss to OU ... and yes to me it was more a concession to the loss ... but they have them for the 3 games they must win. In the baseball game both teams used the good pitchers knowing full well the implications to them if they lost the game. Tennessee faired a lot better - Clemson is in trouble so now must choose which game to use their best available pitcher in and which game to have rotation of pitchers for. They must beat Charlotte to get to the second game. Do they think they can do that with pitchers that are more than likely physically and emotionally drained from last night.
it all its in the wording, you can casually run by an opposing player and say something pretty damningNo way you throw that player out of the game in that situation for what he did. He did not get in anyone’s face and the umpire might have been the only person in the stadium that even knew words were exchanged. I do find it ironic that the kid was ejected by rules put in place in reaction to UT’s behavior last year. Indiana also had a player ejected for bringing a prop onto the field. Starting 2nd baseman. Another rule in place because of UT’s action last season.
I recorded the Ladies game and started watching it this morning. I only made it to the second inning and figured out that the home plate umpire had two distinct strike zones, one for OU, and the other was nowhere near theirs. OU probably would win the game regardless, but at least be consistent with the strike zone for both teams. Kudos to KW for giving the ump an ear full.It seems reasonable to me that the Lady Vols coaches would assume they could not beat the OU machine the first time they go up against them. But if you and your players have agreed that the team goal is to play to win the national championship, then strategic planning is called for, and the "indirect approach" certainly has historic recommendation.
I think it's the same question in the Clemson locker room: What were your goals at the beginning of the season, and what were your intermediate goals for the postseason?
If your strategy is to set winning the next game as every intermediate postseason goal, then you play all-out to beat Charlotte, and deal with the evening afterwards.
But if their postseason intermediate goal was to win their region... strategy becomes more interesting.
