The Official Tennessee vs. Memphis Game Thread, 8pm EST

Don DeVoe did a decent job. Jerry Green made the tourney ever year.

Also, his 40 years comment from when Bruce was hired was idiotic considering Mears coached another 12 years.

Jerry Green good lord. What was it. Go Johnny go and take DeVoe?

Green made the tourney every year. I'm not debating if Jerry Green was a good coach, but it's not like making the tourney every year is some impossible task Bruce Pearl accomplished.

Tennessee was pretty good with Mears and Devoe.. sucked rest of time with exception of Pearl and brief time with Jerry Green.

Devoe won a few games but his style was boring as hell. I don't remember him ever doing anything in the NCAA.

Yep thats right you have to go back 40 years to find a time when basketball at UT was relevent. Just what Ive been saying. Glad you agree with me.

Considering we were the #4 team in the country in 2001, I'd say you'd be wrong. Also, Ernie and Bernie were about 33 years ago, not 40.

No I'm not. Except for about 10 years from Houston to O'Neill, and then the Buzz era, UT basketball has been pretty good.

UT basketball sucks except for King and Grunfield and the Bruce Pearl era if you don't know that you deserve what you get.

What do I deserve? And no, it's not. That's not correct.

Mears did a very good job before Ernie and Bernie considering the circumstances.

Devoe went to the NCAA Tourney five straight years, and won 20 games six out of his first seven years.

Jerry Green made the tourney every year during his tenure.

And before Mears, Tennessee had three coaches from 1938-1959 that went a combined 343-170, for a win percentage of 67%. That's not too shabby, especially back then.

Oh, by the way, Jerry Green has a better winning percentage than Bruce Pearl.

Devoe. He just didn't recruit well. Green recruited well, but didn't coach well.

Yeah your right I remember now all those tourneys we went to the final fours the great eights all those times we blew out Fla and Ky. I don't know how it slipped my memory lets see was that 6 National championships or 7. I cant believe that I ever thought that UT basketball left anything to be desired. I remember when they hired coach Wooden he brought us how many championships. Then there was that Krzyzewski guy and they only payed him 40k per year and he furnished all the basketballs.

You said Tennessee sucked at a basketball program.

We don't.

Other than Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Duke, and UCLA, how many great basketball programs are out there?

You didn't ask whether Tennessee was a national power. Of course they aren't. They weren't with Bruce either.

I'm starting to see a pattern with ol' Willie.

Tennessee loss> grace VN with his brilliance
Tennessee win> quiet
Tennessee loss> more brilliance
Tennessee win streak> quiet
Land a recruit he didn't think we could get> quiet
Tennessee loss> guess who's back

What a joke... thank god for the ignore feature.

We have been a middle of the road basketball program..just in SEC you can name several other programs that have been historically better--UK, UF, Arkansas, LSU, and bama/MSU/Georgia are debatable.

Are you talking about that win streak over Southern Conference teams...Yay!

I completely again, it's fine to express your disappointment but to continually beat a dead horse is stupid. This goes for basketball and football. We all know DD has major issues and so does CM. Let's just support them and hope for the best in the future.

Name a coach between Mears and Pearl who was good

I believe Kevin O'Neill had the team heading in the right direction. He just couldn't get along with Dickey and was a bit arrogant. To leave UT for Northwestern sounded like a bail out and not going to some dream job.

Did someone give Joe Jackson one of these?

He earned it last night.

Are you talking about that win streak over Southern Conference teams...Yay!

Yes. Problem? It's pretty much common knowledge that this team lacks a good win. It doesn't change the point I was making.

It isn't just Willie.
Haven't you noticed how VN membership seems to grow after every loss.
