I was listening to WOKI this morning and caught the tail end of a segment where Vol players were reading phone calls to their younger selves. I’d like to hear the whole thing. It could have been on the broadcast and I missed it, as I generally tune the TV out. I can only hear so much about Jeff Kent. Anyway, does anyone happen to know what I’m referring to and where to find it? It was really cool and emotional.

They are a cult following for sure. Who the hell thinks blowing bubbles at a baseball game is intimidating. I must admit their ball 5 chant is funny as hell. Has to be annoying as hell for the pitcher. Wonder what’s the highest number they’ve got to with their ball chant?
They had one a few years back that went on for 5+ min got into 8-12 balls. The announcers didn’t even speak and let the crowd do the talking. It’s annoying and stupid as hell but I have to admit that was a sight to see/hear. It’s definitely on YouTube somewhere.

The big winner is Rocco’s.

Let's do some back of the napkin math (as we Vol fans aren't getting anything else productive done today).

According to the interwebs:

1 shot = 1/3oz of vodka
1 Jell-O mix package (3oz) = 10 Jell-O shots
1 Jell-O mix package (3oz) = $.89
1.75L of Absolut Vodka (59.17oz) = $33 (retail). Assuming wholesale is 20% less, $26.4

According to their board, they have sold 86,830 Jell-O shots. Assuming 5% shrink/waste, they would have had to make 91,172 shots.

Vodka:
91,172 shots would require 91,172 1/3oz pours of vodka.
59.17oz per handle x 3 (for a 1/3oz pour) = 177.5 Jell-O shots per handle
91,172 / 177.5 = 513.64 handles of vodka @ $26.4 per handle = $13,560 cost for vodka

Jell-O:

1 Jell-O mix package (3oz) = 10 Jell-O shots
91,172 shots / 10 Jell-O shots per mix package = 9,118 packages of Jell-O mix @ $.89 per package = $8,115 cost for Jell-O

Total Cost of Jell-O + Vodka = $21,675

Ignoring overhead, labor, and sales tax which would be there regardless, and add in a relatively high shrink/waste of 5%:

$434,150 in revenue
$21,675 in costs
-----------------------
$412,475 in profit @ a 95% profit margin.

Hell of a business model and promotional campaign.

Exit velocities today have exceeded what they were back then. That's why so many are talking about a change needing to happen now. College Velos are higher than MLB on average. Safety is a concern.
