The Official Thread of Josh Selby

Tennessee rumors swirl as Josh Selby's season ends
Uncommitted point guard Josh Selby finished with 18 points but it wasn't enough as Lake Clifton fell to City H.S. 60-47 on Thursday night in the Class 2A North final.

The loss marks the end of Selby's high school career and now the ESPNU 100 guard can concentrate on his recruitment which has seen rumors fly over the past week.

First, Selby and his mother were scheduled to attend the Maryland-Duke game on Wednesday but that never happened and Maeshon Witherspoon told ESPN.com affiliate The Shiver.com, Kansas Jayhawk and Big 12 Conference sports forums that Josh was done listening to other schools and would focus on his final four choices.

On Friday, The Shiver reports that Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl and assistant Steve Forbes were in Baltimore on Thursday watching Selby and Lake Clifton.

Witherspoon addressed the rumors Josh had initiated contact with Pearl about the possibility of re-committing to the Vols.

"Josh has only talked to Bruce Pearl once since he de-committed in July," said Witherspoon. "I've never denied how much I like Steve Forbes, and I appreciate their time and effort, but Tennessee is not, and has not been, the focus of Josh's recruitment."

As for this weekend's official visit to Kentucky (March 6), it remains unclear if that will happen. A decision is likely to come in April for Selby.
Tenn is a serious contender for Selby. His mother is not speaking the truth. For some reason, she does not like Bruce. Why would Bruce and Forbes go watch Selby play right before a road trip?

That quote from her was months ago. ESPN has a hard time at explaining when such quotes were actually said. They just run the story with a bunch of quotes and never tell you when they were said.
Can you back this up because I just searched and found nothing. Not calling you a liar but just curious.

My advice is to not believe everything (or better yet anything) you read on this situation from here on out. This mess keeps changing course and my guess is that it's going to do that every single stinking day for the next few weeks and not worth the ups and downs.

Still appears to be a 2 man show and no UK visit this weekend. (unless that changes again of course.) :bad:

UK has shown recent interest in Corey Joseph which makes me think Selby is no longer option 2 for Cal if Brandon Knight doesn't sign. So if UK is out - that would leave Kansas and who?

Corey Joseph is overrated. As for the Selby thing all you pepole asking why he doesn't have UT listed and how would he come to UT if he doesn't have them listed. Maybe he just likes to have some fun.:)

Scout.com: UK, Calipari expecting two big visitors

says he's visiting this weekend

I know, but apparently he's not. (I'm not fully confident in that statement but I'm told it's true)

From all indications you are correct. This was posted by Matt Jones on KSR:

As for the other two visitors, both Selby and Teague’s visits are up in the air and will be the proverbial “game-time” decisions.

Both of those guys have failed to show several times due to game conflicts. Selby's season is over - not sure about Teague. TIFWIW

Speaking of world wide wes, there's a post over on Catspause saying that he's going to be a sports agent and that his first client will be John Wall.

They didn't give a source so take that for what it's worth. Not sure how it relates to Selby, but I thought I would post here since we were discussing WWW earlier.

Hmm, WWW as a sports agent. Interesting...then getting that cut of a kid's money would be legal

Selby's mom needs to let her son breathe. Good Lord live your own life woman, don't live vicariously through your son's.

This kid, IMO, is a true "one and done".
True, but as of today the NBA will not have a season to play in 2011-2012 (the season after Selby's Fr. year). Yes, things will change, but remember that NBA owners lost over $400 million dollars collectively last year. That number may grow this year.

The CBA between the owners and PA is on seriously shaky ground. Don't be surprised if all the "one and done" studs all have to spend 2 years in college because of this.

The fact that Selby (?) and Harris (!) might be at UT could be a 2 year deal because of this situation. (Harris knew this and that is why he has said he'll be around for at least 2 years.)

Imagine the possibilities with those two and the rest coming in for a two year stretch and getting to bond. Pearl has the ultimate pressure if he lands both and has two years with them. If he can't get it done with that group and the continuity, then he is what he has shown to be. He'll be sweating out three jackets and six shirts a game!

I really wish Selby would recommit. However, his mom used some strong words in that article about UT not being in the mix at this point. I see Selby in a Jayhawk uniform next year.

So go ahead and mark uk and uconn off his list. But I still think that he is going to Kansas unfortantlly. I wish his mom liked UT.

I don't think we have to worry about what the parent wants in this situation. Selby will do whatever the hell he wants to. He always does. Sometimes good, Sometimes bad.
