The official UT QB controversy thread

I'm just stating my view of things. Certainly I don't know the inner workings none of us can. I can respect you see it differently. What is consistent for me though is that in no practice notes/summaries, leaks, o&w game, open practice, etc has Worley ever set himself apart. You say 1st team reps is what sets him apart, maybe so but I don't see it. I didn't see it in Worley in the games he played either. If he can be like Crompton and win enough maybe beat a USC type then good enough/great. We'll see soon.

If Worley was not "set apart" then you don't give him the bulk of the #1 reps. That would be a very, very poor investment of available practice time. I struggle to understand how you cannot see that as a very, very important thing. The 1st O is going to be more accustomed to and comfortable with the guy who reps with them the most.

I would almost say that if anyone has closed ground right now it would have to be Ferguson. He was the last to get his shot. We have not yet seen how the reps will be split after he got it.

Oh, fwiw, I do believe Jones when he says he is going to review practice film and evaluate the 4 QB's full body of work over the weekend. Maybe he will decide it WAS a poor investment and choose to correct it by starting someone else... but that just doesn't seem very likely at this point. I think it is something more along the lines of, "Did I miss something important along the way?"

A coach is not going to give a QB the first team reps and then turnaround and start someone else. That coach would be playing games and wouldn't last long. As much as some may want Fergie or Peterman it appears they're not the starters. It seems that some are trying their best to read into something that's not there. If its not there its not there.

I agree though I support all 4. Any feedback from the hometown folk?

Haven't heard anything around here. Since I'm retired, I don't get to spend time around his HS coach.

Haven't seen or spoke to his folks in a while.

If I hear something I'll let ya'll know.

Having listened to CBJ about what he wants most, good decisions and protecting the FB, and coupled with Worley taking the 1st team reps it's obvious he's the starter. No doubt at all. I do sincerely believe what CBJ followed that up with though, that it's about production and the competition will continue all season. I'm interested to see who gets snaps at AP and who the main rival is in said competition, if anyone.

I've not said it enough but I hope Worley blows the doors off, keeps his starting spot, and has an excellent Jr year.

Yeah its going to be interesting to see if jw can grow in the position or someone else steps up during the season and takes it. That's what I want to see. It would actually be a good thing.

The freshmen have player mentors. The mentor alone decides when the stripe is removed. I do not know who is the mentor for either... nor does that matter with respect to who is where on the depth chart.

I heard Worley pulled off Fergusans. Safe to say that it his mentor?

Agree DD.

The WR position is what scares me. Worley can do everything right and still take alot of flak for "not getting it done".

I know we have a ton of talent at wr but from the practice reports I've seen they just dont seem to be gett'n it....yet.

I may be in the minority and it would have to be handled delicately but I wouldn't mind one of our mobile backs getting some occassional game reps just to add a wrinkle to the offense. That sort of thing can be both bad and good. I see coach Jones as a guy that could do it with tact and effectiveness.

I hope that happens too. It makes the opposing DC prepare for more even if they just get a series. A few years ago UGA did that but I cannot recall the guys name. He eventually got to start his senior year but had some good PT before that.

BTW, I think CBJ has done all of the right things with this competition to make that possible.

It is a "system" when you plan to do something then do it.

The problem you see the most with two QB "systems" is that they aren't systems. There's no plan. There's no continuity or comfort. One guy is always on edge that if he messes up he gets yanked.

Give Peterman or Dobbs a series or two. Run the read option a time or two. Again, just gives the opposition something else to worry about.

For once Jesse Palmer made a good point. ND e. golston, ta&m manzeil, and there a few others that I dont remember, but the point is they were all true or redshirt freshmen who made a huge impact on there team. Highschool coaches are doing better jobs on getting jids ready for the next level. So I would be ok with a freshmen starting if there capable. The years of having to have backup or game experience are over for the most part. As long as there ready to play I'm ok with whoever we start.

It would be no different than the Beast Package or the G-gun.

He just is. Terribly inaccurate. And where is the pass protection? Without the 2 pic 6's the game is 3-3. D is playing lights out since opening drive, though.
