The official UT QB controversy thread

Worley worked with the 1's yesterday and Peterman and Dobbs worked with the 2's. It's unclear if Ferguson was on a planned off rotation or just didn't get reps. Today is the last practice until Thursday which will be the final practice for the week so likely the 1's situation should stay the same unless Worley just gets a rotation.

Supposedly Petermen looked somewhat sore in practice, likely just the grind of camp and the break coming up will help/fix that.

Most major media is saying Worley is your defacto starter. The only one not saying that or anything is CBJ and Bajakian.

0.2% careeer TD to interception ratio.
- Worley

9 number of games Worley has played in

6-2 record when QB change was made last year
- CBJ

3 number of QB's that played for Butch in 2011 @ Cinci

1 The number that redshirted that same year

I hope they just let Peterman and Worley battle it out against AP and WKU let Dobbs and Ferguson redshirt.

Story on gvx saying that Jones will select his starter early next week. I still believe all the signs point toward Worley being in the lead. I still believe it was a "real" competition and something that Jones intentionally fostered. I believe he did so NOT because of a lack of confidence in anyone including Worley but because he wanted maximum improvement and to assure the best choice was made.

Now it seems it comes down to a couple of days. There will be an extended practice to help them determine the starter. Again, reading into Jones' methods, he wants to ramp up maximum pressure one last time to see who cracks and who steps forward. Even if he has a leader, telling the 4 that the job comes down to how they perform in one practice is pressure as close to a games as Jones can manufacture.

Despite the handwringing of some that a QB has not been named and the certainty of others that one player or another or even the whole group is no good because a starter has not been named... I think Jones planned this from the moment he signed Dobbs and Ferguson. I think he executed it exactly the way he intended. I think he at once built the confidence of each player, the unity of the group, and challenged them physically, mentally, and emotionally.

If he had been Bray's coach then either Bray would have not started or he would have learned not to be a choker.

I have modified my opinion a little based on this last release. I truly believe Jones is trying to crack these guys and to see who can handle the pressure best.

I still think Worley is the leader and about 60% likely to start. But Peterman being more or less relegated to #2 reps (at least as far as we've been told) means he is fairly unlikely to be the starter. So maybe after Worley- Dobbs 15%, Ferguson 15%, and Peterman 10% or a little less.

Good post, will be fun to watch what happens next.

If Worley hasn't locked down the position and Peterman has been performing as well as the two freshmen why not go with the better looking freshman? We're supposed to have one of the better OL's in the country so now would be the time to get their ears wet.

Dave Hooker said Ferguson's arm reminds him of Bray's he also said he is hearing that the coaches think Ferguson could be the answer long term at qb.

Ferguson is my front runner favorite at this time. But, I will support whomever Butch Jones decides to start! Go VOLS

Not to mention their feet...😊

Everyone's against a freshman starting without even seeing him play in a game. Plenty of freshman have good seasons in college football. Hell if he's better than the junior or senior why not play him? I mean to win you need your best played on the field right? Give him a chance to show what he can do before you write him off.

I would have assumed strictly from the perspective that there's still a QB battle going on that should be telling enough for folks. Guess not?

I have no doubt we'll see Worley. I would assume Jones wants to find out how he'll play during an actual game and then go from there. This gives Worley an opportunity to either establish himself or go back to holding a clipboard.
