LOL.... Forgot about O'Neil. How could you forget him. I had the privilege on knowing Johnny Darden and being around Benard King and Ernie Grunfeld for several private events. They did not run together but we were together privately. Also have several friends that keep in close contact with Ernie because of his job.

Mears was a coach, but he threw those three players along with Jackson onto the court and let them create. It was interesting. Forget about the interim coach Cliff Wettig for Ray Mears.

Mears was before I really started paying attention to the finer details of basketball. Raised as a football junkie, I didn't start paying close attention to basketball until I started playing competitively in school.

Speaking of just putting players on the court - Green was so frustrating in wasting away what could have been a defining moment in UT basketball with Victor, Haislip, and Yarbrough.

Well said...

And maybe that's where tgere was miscommunication...

From people on here saying we have to schedule tough SOS, my assumption was better than this year...

We were 35 iirc this year, and next year I'm going at guess by looking around 40-45 range, both of those are top 50. To me those are acceptable, and from people critiquing them I thought they were wanting top 10 which is what I was arguing the whole time.

Top 50 in my mind is fine, and if CCM wants to make it higher in the next few years then I'll support it, but with this team and next years team I get why we aren't going top 20 SOS like we used to always be.

I guess we agree then on the SOS, anything top 50 IMO is acceptable. I was under the assumption from the way people were talking that they wanted better than this year, which was top 35.

I think and I maybe wrong but I think Oneil just screwed Victor up in the head. I think O'Neil is a head game coach. I have seen some unusal coaches at UTK in basketball.

Football junkie I am also and still am as far as the Vols.

I am into all Vol Sports. One of my exs dated Ron Delmonico what a story about that guy. LOL

I have some fond memories watching the baseball team while in school on cool spring days. Free, non-crowded, outdoor entertainment. Walking over to the field and hanging out. Old Rod Del was a strange violent character. I never understood why he was employed as long as he was.

I think Victor only played for Green - but O'Neil's tirades may have still been echoing off the walls and messed with Victor's head anyway.

For some strange reason I think they were together for one year. I can remember O'Neil suspending him and lashing out at him. People talk about Dooley throwing players under the bus and I maybe wrong but I think O'Neil not only threw him under the bus but was driving the bus and backup to make sure he got him then forward then back again.

There was conflict and I thought it was Victor. Victor was suspended or just flat out crushed by O'Neil. I may have the wrong player but I think it was Victor.

Whoever it was it got into the Higher up areas. I think the handling of Victor was the reason O'Neil was gone add to it a little mental too. It was Victor and O'neil, Dickey AD ruled him ineligable and O'Neil got into it with Dickey but he also held Victor accountable and treated him like a dog.

Now that you talk it through, I do remeber that too. Too bad O'Neil did that to Victor - I always liked him. O'Neil treated everyone like a dog, including the couple of hundred fans that went to TBA to see the snooze fest show he put on the floor. I'm not sure how that guy hasn't had a heart attack, his face is constantly red from epic cursing outbursts.

I got the joy of seeing him for a season here in Memphis while he was on the Grizzlies staff. He is one crazy character that must have some photos of someone. He keeps getting jobs after torching his last employer.

I also think he had marital problems while at UTK. He didn't like Victor that is for sure. I think if was more of his doings and Dickey took the fall for it. NCAA cleared him. The school did not.

Greene took the philosophy of Defense what is Defense. We will out gun ya. All the power brokers wanted points on the board.

I think you have some Valid points, but with little patience to wait it out.

There was a lot of disgruntled fans this year that grew in numbers because of the football issues, CPS's condition, the fact that we had lost Pearl who was a beloved coach, the NCAA investigation, the home loss to AP, combined with losses to COC, and Oakland. We really hit bottom in all sports.

The point of the Pearl era only Vol Fans is another Valid point. I grew up in the Mears, Devoe, Green, Peterson, Houston and Pearl Days. So this start was not a shock.

This team overachieved if anything and most of us did not see this coming. (The turnaround). So I do see where you may have been disgruntled but not to the point of stating Goodbye to CCM.

All coaches must be given time to get their system and recruits into play and it can be done quicker in basketball than football. Simply because of the number of Athletes.

I see both points of view but taking on a weaker schedule to boast the RPI may set us up for a letdown. We want the team to raise the level and not to lower the standards to try to get there. So keep scheduling the same with the mix of good teams versus bad. Beating Texas, Kansas, and other talented teams during the Pearl era put Tennessee Basketball on the map. So we don't need to go to a kitten schedule to leave false hopes for fans.

Florida did just that and they were overrated all year.
We played at Syracuse, at Ohio State, and Florida State. We may have been overrated a while there, but we didn't play a kitten schedule at all, lol (unless you think the #24 SOS is that).

We certainly went from anemic on offense to anemic on defense.
