The Big Tuna/Bill Parcels (who knows a few things about football and players) once said you are what your numbers say you are. Struggling with Tulane at home says a lot about the Sooners and the Vols walk out of Norman with at least a 17 point victory IMO.The Vols won’t get the same OU team or crowd that Tulane faced. Not even close to the same.
Mr. Sampson and Mr. Bishop would like a word.....I disagree. Nico doesn’t have to ball out to win this game in my opinion. On the other hand, he can’t make young QB mistakes and cost us the game. I think if he can have a respectable 200+ yard game with no silly turnovers we can run the ball and win the game. I don’t expect a huge game for Nico for his first real test in Norman. Hope I’m proved wrong.
He very well may be. I'm just saying to not be shocked if Nico's youth and inexperience plays a role SOMEWHERE in this game. You’re just presenting the one side though. I can’t argue the notes you made. But our Vols are a far cry more challenging than Tulane or Houston.
The kid handled a top rated defense in his first start last year.
He’ll be fine…
Venables will scheme to cause Nico some issues in this game for a half. Coaching is big in this game. I like our ability to adjust to what the Oklahoma D is throwing at us. They are a solid defense, but our offensive coaches will help Nico. The one matchup that Oklahoma will have major issues with is our D-line vs. their O-line. They can’t outscore us using short passes. if the vol D shuts down their run game then we can pin our ears back and go after Arnold hard. We have the better team. We are favored on the road by a score. I say Vols 27-13He very well may be. I'm just saying to not be shocked if Nico's youth and inexperience plays a role SOMEWHERE in this game.
…duder gets it…We win if:
1. We make the fewest mistakes.
2. We play for and make the breaks and when one comes our way - WE SCORE.
3. We don't let up if at first the game - or the breaks - go against us... put on more steam.
4. We protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
5. We ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.
6. We press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
7. We carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes (or longer if required).
Is if the stage is to big for Nico . If the stage is not to big for Nico , we win by 3 or 4 touchdowns.
Game day on campus , night game , Oklahoma's first ever SEC game , arguably the best game thus far , with the entire college football world watching . Venables will stack the box , play man coverage and throw everything he's got at our young QB , In an attempt to Rattle him and cause turnovers.
Us Vol fans already know how incredibly talented Nico is , Saturday night in Norman Oklahoma we will find out how mentally and physically tough he is .
Go Vols !!! All of Volnation is behind you !!! Put on more steam !!!
The nega strong in this one is…The stage won’t be too big for Nico but he will make mistakes and be inconsistent I am afraid. These are the types of games Tennessee hasn’t been able to win on any real basis and I am afraid it continues Saturday night. It’s hard to win on the road in the SEC at night
In general, this true. But then you have incidents like Max Baer vs. Joe Louis, Boise vs. Oklahoma, Cassius Clay vs. Sonny Liston, Jets vs. Colts, NIU vs. Norte Dame, USA vs. USSR at Lake Placid, and the list goes on. Numbers may not often lie, but they aren't infallible. After all, there's truth in the adage of, "There are lies, dayum lies, and then there's statistics."The Big Tuna/Bill Parcels (who knows a few things about football and players) once said you are what your numbers say you are. Both OU and UT have played similar schedules imo. Tulane was their toughest opponent and NC State was ours. You can compare stats all day long or how badly another team lost or how they should have won by a wider margin. The stats show we are a better team but past stats don't win future games especially when each team has played inferior schools. Glaring weaknesses however don't really change that much over the course of the year. OU appears to have more weaknesses than UT to this point with OL sticking out the most. We all assume that UT's secondary is our weak link but they haven't been tested much at all. You could argue that Nico throwing bad passes leading to INTs has been our biggest issue. I do have a good feeling going into this game of how we matchup with OU and having less issues to deal with than the squad we are going up against. GBO!In general, this true. I don’t believe this man has watched a lot of vols football this year. This is what some rando had to say about why we lose to OU. Thoughts?
