LOL. Once again you can see how the numbers are inflated. This mat jumping is stupid.

You can see that Fitzpatrick jumped around 27, but they gave him a 38

I thought so too, but apparently the poster behind them is for visual only. They are using a pressure mat to gauge the jump height.

I know, thats why I hate this way of testing. The chart in the background looks like its actually correct when you match it up to their heights. Every year these kids post higher verticals than a lot of NBA players and NFL combine numbers.

Mike Farrell ‏@rivalsmike 3m
43.8" vertical for Taj Griffin

Tyler Phillips just jumped a 42.3

@rivalsmike numbers are def souped up out here. No doubt. Still nice to see who the best athletes are relative to everyone else

Yep. They use a really flawed system. Mentioned this last year and said there's no way in Hell Lorenzo Carter has a 45" vertical, and several posters argued with me like I was dumb.

The mat measures vertical by the amount of time the athlete is in the air. If they pull their feet up right before they land then they will artificially inflate their vertical. Not sure why they can't use the same method as the NFL

It's all just marketing. Everyone and their mom knows the numbers are inflated, but the kids and sponsors like to see big numbers.

Anyone see the guy throwing up the VOL sign in the background during the vertical jump? It was when the Smith kid was jumping.
