The Overwhelmingly Negative Response on This Board

You and MHF wold get along great. Also, that is absolutely ridiculous

You'll have to give me a hint about what it is that's "ridiculous". If it's my first statement and you're saying, "just win baby," I'd say, basketball is entertainment and the way Keady wins isn't entertaining to me. If it's the second statement (the one about Keady): sorry, just citing actual facts.

Look I'm not completely against the hire, I just think there were more accomplished coaches available who would have taken the job. He might be very successful, let's hope he is. I just feel like UT passed over more accomplished coaches to hire him. Which I don't understand, since UT had made 6 straight tourneys.

Agree.

This pretty much sums up my sentiments. I hope he does well but lets wait a season or two before we have the ticker-tape parade.

Give the man a chance. Dean Smith was burned in effigy his first year. Hope Martin is at least half as successful

will they replay the presser on Tuesday? if so will it be streamed so I can watch it on my Ipad?

So Ham hires a search firm to find a coach and this is the best we could get? Either it was a big waste of money or UT bb is in a whole lot more trouble than they're letting on.

Haven't been to the NCAA tournament since 1999 (and they beat Tennessee, interestingly enough) and hadn't won their conference regular season until this year. This was the first time they had won the MVC. When Martin got there, they had 5 scholarship players and won but a handful of games. So I don't know if I would call all that "solid."

And haven't been to the NCAA tournament under Martin. Martin did well, but he didn't make over a nothing program.

Win Rate
1983-2008
Spoonhour: 70% (5 NCAA tourneys in 9 seasons; 3 NIT)
Bernsen: 56% (1 NIT in 3 years)
Alford: 62% (1 Sweet 16; 1 NIT in 4 years)
Hinson: 59% (4 NITs in 9 years)

2009-2011
Martin: 60% (1 NIT in 3 years)

So, basically, he was about on par with his predecessors, with less notable achievements than their program obtained under two predecessors, and comparable performance to his other two predecessors.

+1000 - At first, I was like oh brother. Then I did some reasearch, and I am feeling much, much better about our new HC. I sure hope he can re-recruit both Hopson and Harris for one more year, and get Jones to honor his commitment.

He has no known history as a proven recruiter. During most of his tenure as an assistant at Purdue, Keady's teams declined, not improved, as they went from 90's rosters averaging 2 NBA players per roster to this last decade averaging 0 such players per roster. None of the Keady disciples are really known for their recruiting acumen over time. (Lavin did well in LA at UCLA, but that was LA & UCLA). Otherwise, the Keady legacy and Keady coaching tree is mostly notable for home-tough teams that struggle on the road and underperform in the tourney.

It's amazing to me that all of the self-proclaimed experts on this board were not consulted on this hire. That does include BPV, Hatvol, et al.
