The Pembroke Postgame Report

I liked Tyler staying low in the second half and getting better looks off a pass instead of trying to get in the paint from the 3 pt line and then taking a bad shot.

I tend not to give blind pigs applause for stumbling upon the occasional acorn.

Yes, but the "occasional acorn" might be a sign that we may be looking for new life. You know that I agree with your current assessment of BP's coaching, but couldn't this be a little glimpse that he might be adapting (and learning) a little bit?

We'll see. Color me skeptical.

Not to be a party pooper, but Hopson completely vanished after the breakout performance versus Florida. That has to be concerning to Pearl. If he's going to be a defensive liability, he simply HAS to be a decent offensive threat - otherwise, we'd be better off, I think, going back to Maze and Tabb on the floor at the same time with J.P., Tyler and Chism.

Me too. But, if CBP does get this team into the NCAAs (more and more likely) and wins a few postseason games (we'll see), even the skeptical Hat would have to admit that Pearl's first four years at UT would be considered a great success.

The biggest point for me was finishing strong in a close game on the offensive end. Even though it seemed like a layup drill for Arky on the other end, UT made the plays it needed offensively to win - they haven't done that in many games down the stretch. Hard to believe this team's SEC record is better on the road than at home.

Where have I ever said the first 3 years haven't been a success?

He didn't play bad defensively tonight - atleast compared to the others guys. I rarely saw anyone take him off the dribble... I don't really remember any big mistakes on the defensive end... made a bad foul or late off a switch?

Just wasn't there offensively - he didn't take many shots either.. but didn't make the few he attempted.

Did anybody else have a problem with the sound in the first 8 minutes or so? I had to watch it on mute because it sounded like a tape player with low batteries.

They played pretty smart basketball tonight. They didn't take bad shots and had numbers for the rebounds. I liked what i saw, except the little speed ball that kept running by jp. At least prince made plays on the other end to make up for it.

1. Any win in Fayetteville is a good one. Take all the road wins you can get.
2. That was probably JP Prince's best perfomance with UT. He had an advantage and exploited it.
3. Hopefully, this will complete this team's transition to a halfcourt squad. This team is ill suited for the uptempo, 3 pointers in transition style Bruce Pearl is known for.
4. The SEC office obviously thinks as highly of Bruce as his peers do. They keep assigning Ted Valentine to his games.
5. I'll be ecstatic when Raycom is no more. Tim Brando and Barry Booker are an embarrasssment to their profession.
6. Bobby Maze would not have taken the shot that won the game two weeks ago. That consitutes progress.
7. Wayne and Tyler did exactly what they should down the stretch. Dominating the mostly mediocre frontcourts in the SEC should be the norm for those two.
8. Anyone who wonders where Tennessee misses Ramar Smith need only watch Courtney Fortson layups all night. The Vols have no answer for penetrating scorers.
9. Cincinnati is playing themselves into NCAA consideration. Conversely, Notre Dame looks like an NIT team
10. Wrong place, wrong night for Tubby Smith's team. An angry Michigan State team in East Lansing isn't much fun.

Yeah, but Ramar's layups bounced straight back off the board....occaisionally scraping some rim on the mach 2 route back to the top of the arch :)

Is it safe to say brian williams is a liability on the defensive end? He leaves his feet a lot.

Lol - he left his feet when Fortson never even put up a shot fake. Fortson was bent over and was no threat to score... was double teamed... led to an uncontested 2.

lol ramar was about 8 kinds of awful. Maze is no saviour, but anything beyond that joke of a player has been a welcome relief.

no joke, i swear to you, there were people on this board touting ramar as a future nba player.

I'm not even kidding.

Thats the play i'm thinking about. Fortson made him look bad on that play.

Almost as funny as someone being ridiculous enough to have claimed West Virginia to be one of the best teams in the Big East this season.

I didn't accuse you of that, but I just get the feeling that you don't have an "I love Bruce" t-shirt or attend the Bruce fan club meetings. I just think he deserves more credit than "a blind pig" even if this year hasn't been his best coaching performance.
