The Pembroke Postgame Report.

I still don't expect he and I to be hanging out at Rooster's anytime soon. If I wanted to be cynical, I'd say this run only occurred after his preferred style of play was taken away from him by attrition and misfit personnel. Instead, I'll say I've been really impressed with his ability to adjust and win games 47 feet at a time.

How many outside shots did OSU take?

We drew up a great gameplan tonight. We let Turner do his damage, but we made him do it alone. The 3 line was controlled by us, they didn't really have any open looks. We took a lot of high percentage shots...gotta love those. And we controlled the offensive boards well.

Oh and by the way Pearl doesnt have a losing record in the NCAA tourney (even before this year).

I was counting his SEC tourney record and NCAA tourney record while at UT before this NCAA tourney started.

Way to go Hat, It`s good to see you finally give Pearl a little of the credit that he deserves...Now lets take it to the final 4.

1. It wouldn't have been right for this team to make history easily. That was a tremendous NCAA Tournament game.
2. Wayne Chism will play yet another game. That's an outstanding thing.
3. Without Brian Williams, Tennessee doesn't play Sunday. The tip on one end, followed by altering Evan Turner's shot on the other, carried the day.
4. Bobby Maze did exactly what a senior point guard has to do in March. It gets no more clutch than those two free throws.
5. Melvin Goins' pressure of Turner was key to wearing him down. It was like body shots in boxing.
6. Scotty Hopson's flurry after the awful charge call on him was great to see. Most of the night he was the 10th best player on the floor.
7. Taking a 10 second call at the end of a game is inexcusable. It would have been atrocious if that had cost UT a spot in the regional final Sunday.
8. Cam Tatum is finally becoming the player a number of us thought he could be. He kept the Vols breathing in the first half.
9. No excuses for failing to reach Indianapolis now. Tennessee is simply better than either possible Sunday opponent.
10. The fact I think there are a number of coaches who could get Tennessee to an Elite Eight is no longer relevant. The guy coaching here now has and he deserves all the kudos that come with that.

You can't even say his name. Bruce Pearl. This has to be killing you...

Poetic justice that the OP grilled Prince mercilessly when he joined the Vols three years ago. Then he makes the sealing play in a game that takes the team into new territory.

Great game by the Vols. Looking forward to another gut wrencher Sunday.

Is it too much to say that last night's game is (to date...Sunday awaits!!!) the most historically significant game in UT men's BB history?

Excellent points, and very classy. My apologies to CBP and team. I said they didn't have the talent to make it very far in the tourney. I had them losing to Gtown in the 2nd round. I was wrong. So far, these guys have played their hearts out. There is still a lot on the line, but congrats to the team on a great win. :hi:

Hat hasn't been anything but fair in his asssesments..... Yeah, his remarks may be somewhat pointed (and sometimes harsh) but this whole site exists so that we, as fans, can express our opinions and observations freely. Take 'em or leave 'em.

I'm not sure it'll be a gut-wrencher.... This team seems to play it's best (the Kentucky game in the SEC tourney notwithstanding...) when the stakes are highest..... MSU is without their best player and as lomg as Chism stays out of foul trouble I see us winning fairly comfortably.....

I honestly think the people jumping all over hat for giving Pearl credit are more pathetic than the rabid pearl haters. Just sayin, it seems like they took a lot of what hat said earlier really personally.

The 20 seconds that broke their back, Williams puts back Prince's missed shot for a 1 point lead, races back on defense in time to force the bad shot by Turner, rebounded by OSU, Maize intercepts and gets fouled. Maize iced them both....SNAP!

VOLS are playing great basketball, & CBP is looking like a basketball coaching guru. Any doubters?

It's going to be weird to go from a game where we dominated the glass to a game where we may be at a disadvantage on the glass. I hope the boys are ready.

Turner was exhausted in the final minute - missed three shots (including game clinching block by Prince), made a T/O and fouled Maze who sank final two FT's. Great player, but our depth paid off at the end. I was excited about Pearl the day they announced his hiring. And he has far exceeded my high expectations. He will bring home a BB NC for us - will it be this year?

I remember earlier in this year Pearl admitting that he had recruited the wrong players for "his system". I suppose maybe he dropped stubbornness and adjusted his system to fit his players. Seems to have worked out for him. I don't really expect us to look the same next year depending on who we finish with in recruiting.
