The Rap/Hip-Hop thread

I don't love Lil Wayne, but I respect him as a lyricist.

What about the eleventeen or so other rappers who bring Minaj in for guest spots on their record? Do you have respect for the talent ear of them? For anybody in the hip hop industry generally?

Do you think Kanye featured her because of her style and flash? Because he was smashing it in the studio? Or because he thought she might sound good on his album?

Really?

I don't love Lil Wayne, but I respect him as a lyricist.

His "lyrics" are a stream of unconsciousness that bounces between random garbage and kindergarten "glad/bad/sad/mad" simplicity. He has no storyline or structure. He couldn't spit a hot line if he bit Rakim. He's commercialized confection. Commercialized gangsta. No talent.

Almost 25 tears old and most of these so-called rappers today still can't touch this...

"I looked at the DJ, and said 'May I?' I lit it up like the 4th of July"

"You try to bite and yet sound pathetic..."

You need to give these fools a lesson in hip hop 101. Wayne as a good lyricist? I thought the football forum was bad...

His first mention in this thread, which is sad.

Good call, that is a great song as well, basically every thing he does is great, didn't catch it when you originally posted it though.

One hit wonder (E-Rule). The guy just got drowned out by the Snoop/Tupac fad that was sweeping the West Coast at the time...
