The Rap/Hip-Hop thread

What do Drake and Chris Brown have to do with hip hop?

Because maybe other than Kanye West, Drake is the most popular rapper out there, no matter how much I'd rather that not be true.

And I doubt this becomes Nas/Jay-Z

And the award for most unexpected cover song ....ever goes to

Just because you rap, that doesn't mean that you are hip hop, though. Hip hop is a culture. All Drake and Lil Wayne do is rap.

I got through about half of this thread and only saw one mention of The Roots. That's the only group I stay current with as albums come out. (and Outkast but that's been awhile). Otherwise Im usually a few years behind before I discover a new album.

Currently I'm on Kid Cudi's Man in the Moon. I'm putting this album up there with classics like Blackstar (i was 3 years late on that one too) and Deltron 3030 (only a year on this one). I guess I like to let the creame rise to top before giving it a try, haha.

Just to give an idea of my tastes: Favorite all time groups are A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, the Roots, and Beastie Boys (although they kind of transcend hip-hop).

Can we just go ahead and ban anything involving Drake, Wayne, or any of those other pieces of excrement from the thread?

There were several good groups in the West Coast during the 90's. Freestyle Fellowship, Hieroglyphics, and Tha Alkaholiks Crew were all quality.

Yes there were. Can't remember if I've already mentioned it in this thread but the documentary on The Good Life Cafe about that time called "this is the life" is amazing.

In case you didn't know, Frank Ocean admitted he is at least bisexual.

Huge news in the R&B/Hip Hop field.
