Not debating who the better coach, just pointing out it's not that tough to find a coach that can get to the NCAA tourney, especially with the expanded field.

True, I probably should have worded my statement better. Pearl's success with UT in the tourney will be hard to match.

So your telling me that if Pearl was fired and a coach like Calipari were available that we would go after him with reckless abandon??.....Please...We would go after some high profile assistant somewhere....I've watched UT basketball for over 40 years and there has never been anything done to prove that otherwise...We hired O'Neil and he got so frustrated he left for Northwestern..That's pathetic....Pearl wasn't being paid the big bucks until he showed he was worth it....And he has....NCAA tournament every year he's been here.

Pearl wasn't paid big bucks until he proved he was worth it, you say? How long did that take? 1 season! The poor guy. Sounds like a fair program to give big raise to a guy who has a first year of success, huh? Also, last time I checked,noone is paid big $ until proving they are worth it.

Devoe made it five straight years. Jerry Green made it every season he was here. Had the field been 64 when he coached, Ray Mears would have had a Lute Olsonesque streak at the end of his tenure.

Exactly. From '64 to '74, when only one team per conference could make the big show, one SEC title, 7 second place finishes, and one first place tie (losing the tiebreaker). After the NCAA changed to let more than one per conference in, Mears got in both in '75 and '76 (another conference title, btw).

exactly. Im not saying that lying is ok.. I didnt say everyone is a pathological liar. I simply said that we ALL have made mistakes.. and we ALL have lied at some point in our lives - so to act like we are all Saints and that Bruce should be burned at the stake is crazy to me. I for one am glad that i got a second chance to make right for some of the stupid things i've done in life.

The next time you get paid millions of dollars to not only win basketball games, but keep the integrity of the institution in check, you will understand why the category you are putting this in is just insane.

Pearl had already lied and cheated before. He has ruined a kid in college basketball that didn't do anything wrong as far as we know. Pearl was a known liar way before UT hired him.

Tennessee can do it better.

Eh, he's 10-8 in the NCAA tournament with UT. That's not exactly lighting it up. A competent coach could do similar, if not better, things in the tournament with UT.
