The reason Bruce Pearl will not get fired. ...

The truth is there are fans that love bruce and those that hate him..... but neither can honestly deny the new heights he has taken TN basketball. No Bruce isn't the end all , be all for TN basketball. We can and would survive without him. But Bruce wins... and because of that - he stays. I'm tired of all the haters saying that winning doesn't matter and that his actions are irreputable. We live in the bible belt, so I'll quote some scripture for you... John 8:7. " Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". We've all lied at many points in our own lives. We have covered things up, hidden the facts, hoped and prayed that noone found out what we had said or done. So cut the guy some slack. Forgive and move on.. and be thankful that for the first time since Ernie and Bernie, TN is no longer a nobody in college basketball.

Gee how original; not to mention totally misused.

How about after a guy cries and says he was wrong and goes and commits another violation? Can I throw a stone then, or do I just have to always look the other way?

So I'm going to guess all you "He without sin" and "everyone makes mistakes" people are giving Lane Kiffin the EXACT same benefit of the doubt, aren't you?

Just let him destroy the program and the image of the university and forgive him and go on. Obviously, not really a big deal.

I don't think I've gotten an apology from him nor has he shown any signs of remorse. So little different IMO

Whether our fan base forgives him or not has nothing to do with whether or not he will be kept or fired by the University. I for one don't think he should be kept on, but I do think the University will keep him. If Hamilton, the Chancellor of the University, and the board decide they want him to stay, that is good enough for me.

Oh please. The people who don't want Pearl fired after hearing about those other violations can't seriously tell me it's about 'standing behind our coach.' So many people are just afraid of change.

No actually We are enjoying the CHANGE you speak of...Winning....Pearl has been about the only coach who aggressively goes after big time recruits and just flat out WINS....Period...We have had several coaches in here that could not cut the mustard and failed miserably yet some of you want another one of these losers to come in and do the same thing the others did?....That's insane....Let me clue you in on something, UT is not Kentucky, They will NOT go after a big time coach and pay him multi millions to win...UT is first and foremost a football school and that's what pays the bills at UT...We got lucky and fell into a good find with Pearl and even tho he screwed up, I still think he is the best choice for UT....He won't make the same mistake twice. :good!:

Nothing is said about an apology or remorse in John 8:7. So now you're admitting you have different standards of when you apply that tactic?

so the proof we would pay a good coach (Pearl's $$$), the renovations to TBA and the construction of Pratt are just my imagination? UT finally has an AD that has shown that bball is a worthwhile investment at this school. I doubt we do it once and just give up

Yet there is a big portion of this board who want him gone as well. I would be all about UT getting a new coach if someone could guarantee that he would bring the same level of or more success than Pearl has to UT.

You can take it however you like. I was simply pointing out the difference. Just not the same situation.

So your telling me that if Pearl was fired and a coach like Calipari were available that we would go after him with reckless abandon??.....Please...We would go after some high profile assistant somewhere....I've watched UT basketball for over 40 years and there has never been anything done to prove that otherwise...We hired O'Neil and he got so frustrated he left for Northwestern..That's pathetic....Pearl wasn't being paid the big bucks until he showed he was worth it....And he has....NCAA tournament every year he's been here.

I didn't say the money cares about keeping Pearl but rather that they have shown their money can be used for bball. Once that's true it becomes much easier to sell the program to a good coach

you keep talking about past history where a guy like Dickey didn't see bball as important. UT has made an investment in it since he left and I doubt they dropped all that money in buildings just to rehire Wade or Buzz

Pretty sure we could find a coach that could win one SEC title in six years.

According to the quoted Bible verse, it is the same situation.. There is no difference.

And you're right, it's not. One has never apologized or cried at a news conference, and the other did so and then went right back to his same behavior 3-4 days later.

Doug Dickey is the reason UT baskeball sucked. That is fact.

The verse I understand more as a challenge to the accusers to carry out the execution if they met the qualifications he mentions. None the less.....

I see your point on the Bump Rule incident. I haven't gotten both sides on that yet so I guess I will wait some before rushing to an opinion. I undersatnd your disapointment. I'm disapointed too. We obviously don't agree on the fix. ... but that's okay...

Pretty sure isn't guaranteed is it? How easy is it to find a coach that can take you to the NCAA tournament like Pearl has?
Devoe made it five straight years. Jerry Green made it every season he was here. Had the field been 64 when he coached, Ray Mears would have had a Lute Olsonesque streak at the end of his tenure.

True, but Green made it to the Sweet 16 once. Pearl Made it 3 times, one leading to the Elite 8. Pearl still wins.

Not debating who the better coach, just pointing out it's not that tough to find a coach that can get to the NCAA tourney, especially with the expanded field.
