The Rock/Metal Thread

Do you consider Black Sabbath metal?

Honestly don’t know too much about “metal”, but feel I “know it when I hear it”.

Isn’t it known for fast repetitive guitar riffs and really fast drums? Along with almost gutteral chanting?

Is Metallica considered metal? Always thought Lars’ super fast double bass kit was representative of the genre.

Guns’ never played like that. Especially the Classic Guns’ lineup, which is what I was referencing.

It's all subjective at the end of the day.... but one of the things that make heavy metal a unique genre are the seemingly countless sub-genres of metal.

Most people place GNR in the Hair/Glam Metal category while Metallica (esp their early stuff) is most definitely Thrash Metal.

I wouldn't classify Guns' as Glam Rock. I mean, they're weren't anything like Poison...

Axl def had big hair when they came out, but they didn't sound anything like a lot of those bands

Metal has about as many variants as alternative rock does. Not to mention some cross over genres in rock itself.

I really don’t get caught up in labels; if I can rock out to it, it’s cool to me.

Guns was hard rock, period. They had way more in common with the likes of ACDC than they did with Poison.

Man that is an awesome lineup. I'd hate the crowd but those headliners are awesome. And being able to see APC and 2 nights later Tool is awesome.
