I remember debating with numerous posters about the play of Scotty Hopson over the years, and my main response was always to "give him time." Now, Hopson is off to an extremely good start, and i have a question.

Who is man enough to eat their crow and say they were wrong about Hopson?

If you still aren't convinced, what will it take to convince you that Hopson is a great player and has begun performing on a consistant basis against every form of talent?

Let's get through the OOC schedule before we start praising.

He's playing out of his mind right now, but he's done this in spurts before.

I've certainly been down on him before. But, mainly because I could see the potential athletically. He is finally growing in the area where it counts, the 6 inches between his ears, and is starting to realize he can dominate games whenever he wants to.

He's shown up consistantly in our games against top opponents this year. can't say that about the past.

no one has said they hated Hopson (that I've ever read). In the past there were legit criticisms of his game and his current play doesn't negate any of those

Indianavol4eva- If Hopson does like he has in the times past, of playing good then playing like he's lazy and doesn't care, are you going to be man enough to say so.

Correct. By and large most posters have recognized that he could be a very good player. What he's been faulted for is underachieving, especially against better opponents.

I love Hopson when he plays to his potential. Love the Kid N Play fade he is rocking, too.

Nobody's going to be hard on him, even playing poorly, if he's clearly putting forth is best (or even close to his best) effort. Most of the knock has been about intensity, effort and focus.

ok guys, by "hater" i dont mean that they literally hate him. This definition from urban dictionary describes what i meant by it.

A label applied to people who are more negative than positive when discussing another person. It most commonly refers to individuals whose negativity is so extreme that it is all-consuming. However, there are various levels and forms of being a hater, ranging from completely dismissing any positive traits or actions, to merely painting a less than flattering picture by using words with negative connotations.

yes, if he disappears for a large part of the season, or becomes generally irrelevant when he should be stepping up, i will gladly admit i was wrong.

be honest, do you think there has been more positives or negatives to his game since arriving on campus. He's had some highs but there have been large stretches of low for a guy with his talent

I honestly believe that the negativity towards him drowned out a lot of his accomplishments. He was a solid player for us the past two years. He was not the superstar everyone expected him to be, but by people's opinions of him, it almost seemed like some would rather just not have him on the team. In fact, i believe i remember someone going as far as to say they think we would be better off without him

My arguement to this negativity was always "give him time." Now look at his game.

Solid post.

While we have seen Hopson play well in spurts he's never shown up and dominated like he has in the Villanova and Pittsburgh games. He's been pretty consistent so far this season but it's a long season. I'm very happy he's finally playing like he's capable of playing.

I'll never understand threads like this. It was mostly due to hype that Scotty received as much flak as he did. Still, most everything that was said was legitimate as Hopson lacked intensity and effort in his first two years. He floated and disappeared offensively and slacked a bit on the defensive end.

Threads like this only bring negativity.

im calling out the people who were overly negative about hopson. and there was definitely a lot more said about him than just "he doesnt give good effort"

which is great for you but doesn't mean anyone has to eat crow over it since they weren't wrong. If last year someone said Scotty's ballhandling needed work that has nothing to do with how he's playing now. OTOH if they said he would never contribute to this team then they would be wrong.
