im calling out the people who were overly negative about hopson. and there was definitely a lot more said about him than just "he doesnt give good effort"
It's the internet, of course people will go overboard when critiquing college athletes. Still don't see the purpose of the thread.

I love someone calling everyone out about about Hopson. I'm thrilled about his start and hope it continues, but he's the same guy who was caught ball watching with the Final Four on the line last year. He's playing well, but it doesn't mean his criticism wasn't deserved.

I'll man up.

He's playing a lot better than I though he would this year and I hope he continues to make me eat my words.

He earned the criticism in previous years. This year, he's playing ball.

I've always thought Hopson had the talent to be dominant. My criticism was always about his toughness and his mindset. So far this season he has been doing much better in those areas. I'm still a little bit concerned about his leadership abilities. Is he a guy that younger players look at as an example of how to always work hard and get better? Is he a guy that begs for the ball in the clutch? That still is yet to be determined.

Solid post.

While we have seen Hopson play well in spurts he's never shown up and dominated like he has in the Villanova and Pittsburgh games. He's been pretty consistent so far this season but it's a long season. I'm very happy he's finally playing like he's capable of playing.

I'll never understand threads like this. It was mostly due to hype that Scotty received as much flak as he did. Still, most everything that was said was legitimate as Hopson lacked intensity and effort in his first two years. He floated and disappeared offensively and slacked a bit on the defensive end.

Threads like this only bring negativity.

Reminds me of the whole George W. Bush "Mission Accomplished" speech that was premature by decades. 7 or 8 good games does not negate 2 years.

Scotty is playing great and deserves all the praise for it, but have some logic. Threads like this are useless.

I'll borrow the words of one of the NBA scouts I talked to after the game Saturday: "Let's see him do it every night."

Disappointed? Heck yes.

Hate him? Not even close.

Hopson has played well this year, I just wish he could have done this the last couple of years.....I hope he keeps it up

I am a Hopson hater. And I have no problems admitting it. It is shameful that in three years his career high is 27 points.

I will eat crow and come around on Hopson if he can do that every game with the exception being an off night - not the exception being a breakout performance.

Unfair, IMO: fans shouldn't have the same standards as NBA scouts. You can win a lot of games as a college player and still not have the tools for the pro game.

IIRC, I've never "hated on" him or bashed him personally. If anything, his recent play just supports my prior complaints that he needs to bring 100% of that talent every night...which he clearly has NOT in the past.

I want nothing but the best for SH. I think the sky is the limit. But, he needs to bring the kind of intensity and leadership he showed during the Pitt game every game.

Maybe we are seeing the maturity of a kid...n' to a play-a. No pun intended. Well, maybe. The symbolism is striking.

Let's get through the OOC schedule before we start praising.

He's playing out of his mind right now, but he's done this in spurts before.

Yeah, let's just call off the message board completely then. We'll wait until the end of the year before we start praising Hopson. Let's also wait until Tyler Bray has played 8 years in the NFL before we attempt to draw conclusions about how good he might be. And, Tobias Harris, well he's just a freshmen, we shouldn't be able to discuss his play until at least 2012.

Terrible post.

be honest, do you think there has been more positives or negatives to his game since arriving on campus. He's had some highs but there have been large stretches of low for a guy with his talent

Hopson brought more positives to the table on the basketball court in his freshman year than you've brought to this message board in 5 years and 30K+ posts.

I mean for a guy with your talent....er.....never mind.

I'm betting he was referring more to Scotty "bringing it" every night. He's not going to score 27 every game, but he can bring that intensity and drive every night if he wants to.
