Its not time to jump ship just yet. Although a bit embarassing, it certainly will serve as an eye opener to the frosh and veterans alike.

Thankfully, this can be a lesson with no long-term consequences. We're still 0-0

I've long since given up on the idea that the light is going to magically come on for Hopson.

Yea, Tatum is clearly the better player, imo. Just hope he can stay healthy. He's the only one that looked like he gave two craps about the game tonight.

Yeah, I'm honest when I say I wrote his chances off before he even made it to UT, and I have seen nothing that changes that opinion. Seen enough of his act here in KY at the HS level. I do think there are enough pieces on this team to rally around and make a solid squad though. I didn't get to see the game, but from what I gather there was little to no effort/fire in this group tonight.

It's depressing. I can take a bad shooting night, a hot player, etc. But seeing them give no effort on either end of the floor is bothersome. If you're not having a good night, the least you can do is give your max effort

So... Going forward, how best can this team attack the zone? Who has to step up?

I said this all last year :whistling:
Tatum has been the better player since he's been here. Unfortunately he's been injured his entire career here, suspended for a bit as well.

Scotty is one of the most frustrating players I've ever seen though.

The guards have to penetrate. We just pass the ball around the perimeter then jack a 3.

We can also look to Tobias in the middle as he can be a play maker either scoring or passing.

Couple ball reversals and hit Harris at the freethrow line. He could have scored, high-lowed to Williams/Fields, or penetrated and kicked for a solid look at a 3. Instead, we decided to flip the ball around the perimeter the whole night never even getting the ball inside the 3 point line for the majority of our possessions in the second half. Pathetic.

So simple, yet we've been unable to consistently crack that nut except for that tourney run last year, where we were marginally better.

As I recall, part of that success was getting it inside to Williams more.

If you don't make open shots, it doesn't matter what approach you take to attacking the zone.

My biggest concern with this team (yet again). I just don't know that we have somebody ready to step up and hit the outside J.

It's just an example of poor offensive coaching. The key to the zone with Pearl was having someone like Prince or Tyler Smith who we could utilize in the middle.

They were guarding Tatum tonight from 3. If we swing the ball to Tatum, bring Harris to the ball-side elbow, we could have entered the ball the entire night and beat the zone. That's middle school level zone offense that we couldn't quite master.
