I just don't understand why Pearl allows this to continue. Surely this isn't what they coach in practice. The players are either not executing what they are being taught, lack discipline and aren't being held accountable or this is what they are being taught to do; either way it's on Pearl.

I'm not certain what it is they do in practice, actually.

Pearl indicated they had spent the pre-season working on defense and rebounding because they had plenty of players who could score. The emphasis on defense was very evident last night.

Sounds as if Pearl's personal life strikes again. If a man has no integrity in his marriage and none when it comes to doing his job off the floor, it will show up on the floor.

Although I see this win as a hiccup, I'm firmly on board with the "Hopson just ain't got it when he's being pressured" mentality. He was timid, decisive when caution was in order, and just lost, at times...

And we still can't hit 3s with any consistency.

So...would it be a bad idea to run the offense through Harris in the high post?

Not at all; this should be the course of action implemented immediately for the Chatt. game to ensure the viability of this option. He's clearly our best player already.

From what it seems, Tobias is a very good passer. What you need is ball movement in the zone obviously. And good entry passes. What I would do is put Tobias in the 10ft range, between the block and and the free throw line on either side. Get Tobias the ball in that area, and let him work from there. He can make things happen. Also, you can't stand in one spot. Let's say you're Tatum. Just moving a couple feet to the left or to the right can make a difference between no shot at a 3, or an uncontested 3.

The pointless 3-jacks have to go. The team also needs the ball in the hands of it's best player almost every time down the floor. Coupled with the fact he's a creative and deft passer, Tobias should not be allowed to EVER got lost for more than 2-3 possessions, and should immediately be the first option.

I'm not that great on judging a player's defensive prowess after on game. Does anyone have any thoughts on his ability in that area?

The two games are somewhat comparable, but different at the same time. Cuse played horrible and still lost on a last second play. UT's outcome was obviously different. However, both games serve the same purpose as a wake up call. (hopefully for the Vols)

This game only matters if the team believes they're as bad as they played last night.

I wouldn't be at all concerned if the problems last night weren't the same problems that have been occuring for years.

Where'd mike Hamilton fan go? I have been waiting for his spin.

I'd say we'll get the Blob Kesling excuse from MHF: "Those guards at Indianapolis could be starting for the Lakers right now."

I'm not surprised the Usual Suspects have shown their golden nuggets after this "dumpster fire". Anyone who feels this is nothing more than a Thom Yorke-blip on a keyboard is a moron....

This doesn't even make sense. No one on here is saying the season's over. But to pretend like that there is any reason at all for optimism after that crap we saw last night is stupid.

No optimism? Really?

I'm usually the ultimate "It's over!" person, but seriously, that is overload right here. Was it ugly? Yes. However, we have a top 20 caliber team. This team is going to struggle to find it's groove. We lost three good senior players. And while we have talent, we aren't replacing them with NBA 1st round picks (except Tobias). So patience is key here. Reminds me a little bit of Pearl's 2nd team where the team struggled in the OOC part of the schedule, because they had to implement four new freshman, but once they found the chemistry, they became very good, and made an excellent tourney run.

I was talking about optimism as a result of the exhibition game. I don't see this team making an excellent postseason run barring an amazing amount of improvement. Not saying it's impossible, just unlikely.

Right. I'd say Tennessee will still win 20 games. But they'll fold like a cheap tent against a good team that plays zone D well and has good ball handling. That's pretty much everyone in the tournament.

Hopefully they improve and fix these glaring weaknesses, so they can make a run. They did so last year right when it counted most, so you never know.

IMO, if what happened to UT last year (Smith situation) had not occurred, I'm not sure this team makes the run they did.
