The Section 103 Postgame Report.

I know it's not news. But I posted this after the Indy failure. Tobias is the most complete freshman I've ever seen. He's Scottie Pippen good. I'm ecstatic.

Pippen? Pippen was a freak athlete with the longest arms and hands in the history of the world. Pippen could defend, rebound, dunk and Manu athletic things, but had a very limited offensive game until late in his career.

Tobias has a very refined offensive game for his size and isn't as athletic. He can't shoot with Carmelo, but is closer to him than Pippen.

There was also a stretch of about 8 minutes or so where Tobias never even saw the floor.

He could have scored at will. He would have commanded a double team, and we would have been able to get open shots the whole night. Not sure why Pearl doesn't see this.

Just a thought. He doesn't really play like Melo, from what I've seen so far.

Reasonably similar to Carmelo. Bosh is a long, athletic, mediocre jumpshooting power forward with limited skill set. Tobias appears to have a very refined offensive skill set.

Bruce seriously needs to work on the rotation/minute distribution. It's also blatantly obvious that Harris needs to getting as many touches as possible. In no way does Pearl need to be playing equal minutes to Harris.

I also hate how he takes guys out right when they start getting hot. His rapid substitutions need to be toned down.

The offense ran through the point forward. That is the impetus of my comparison.

It's probably difficult to get the veterans to buy into running the offense through a freshman by just the 2nd game, but it does look like we need to go that way. When Harris did get the ball on a block, someone would cut into the lane and be wide open.

IDK about TV either, for those asking. If it's not on TV, surely we would at least get another utsports.com live stream like with the exhibitions. I am waiting for the full utsports.com article to appear on the game. It will probably tell us about any TV or stream.

Hopson showed flashes.

I agree. He definitely worked for his shot and shot the ball well. He did disappear for a while. He also had problems handling the ball. Dribbled the ball off his knee while driving the lane, and turned the ball over off this nonchalant pass late in the game.

I was half and half on Hopson tonight. I found myself cursing him at some moments and cheering for him at others.

Agreed, but that is exactly the issue with Scotty. Flashes of brilliance, but never consistent. The difference between their games is that one appears to be predictable and worthy of being counted on, while the other is a wild card. Hopson did hit the mid-range jumper well tonight, albeit against Belmont.

Glad the game is at 7 instead of 9:30. That really sucks for the folks that gotta work :)
Either way, I really hope Goins is good to go tomorrow because the Bears are no joke.

The thing I like about Tobias the most is the attitude. I don't know if UT has had someone with such a single-minded goal to win since JaJuan Smith, and before that, Slay maybe? There were two times tonight when I thought Tobias was going to stare a hole through someone. (One play involved Woolridge and the other Golden, I think).

That being said, I still have serious concerns about our offense and hope Tatum stays healthy. If not, I have big worries.

Tobias sorta reminds me of Vlade Divac, although a little shorter, obviously. Vlade wasn't the most athletic guy, but the offense, especially when he was in Sacramento, ran through him at the 4 spot, like Tobias, and Divac had great vision with a nice touch around the basket. I think that Tobias will have more of the offense run through him as the season moves along and becomes more comfortable with the college game.
