It looks to me like we all expected Hopson to work on his ball handling and dribble drive during the off-season and he surprised us all and instead of working on the obvious flaws, he decided to go all-in on the mid-range game. I can't think of anyone who elevates like he does on the mid-range jumper. His release on that shot at the top of the key had to be around 11'. I think Hopson showed more will than in years past and showed more aggression, which can be good if he finishes and/or draws fouls, but if he hands the ball to the first off-ball defender that crashes down it is utterly useless. I don't know why everyone feels the need to compare Tobais to anyone else, as I think he defines his own game. He is a versatile defender, has a great inside-out game, and he most definitely has the handles to push the ball coast to coast on a long rebound and finish in traffic. Tobais is a gritty player and uses his body to his advantage. He gets after it on the glass, and is strong with the ball in his hands. I look for him to be the one to bring the ball up the court when teams double down on our PG on the inbounds. Tobais is going to be an all-time great at UT without a doubt.
Killa Cam played well. Where was Fields shot blocking expertise? If he is supposed to be one of the best shot blockers in the SEC, why wasn't he more disruptive against the avg sized white stiffs?
The key stats that stand out to me are 27 turnovers... unacceptable out of this team, and 59 total fouls in the game. I can't recall seeing that many fouls in one game... ever.
All in all, a win is a win and I am happy to be 2-0 after the fight that Belmont showed last night. We reduce the turnovers by 50% and we are in good shape with continued growth in the team chemistry area.
Go Vols!!!
