Agree with everything, Hat, except no. 7.

Hopson gets out of control with his ball handling and decisions when he is too agressive. He needs to stick with his strengths(mid range) and stop driving uncontrolled to the basket with no plan.

but the second half intensity is what he's talking about. If he puts forth that sort of effort, we'll be good.

Hat, what's your overall opinion on this team through 4 games? I know they have alot to improve on & there is a long season to go but I'm just not excited about this team as I was before the season. Bruce said this is the best team he has had since he has been here & I just dont see it. I like our PG position, were solid there IMO. I've come to expect nothing out of Scotty, he gets you 10-12 a night on most nights but every now & then he will have a good game. Tatum is our most consistent scorer behind Tobias. Our post game is awful IMO. Fields gives you good defense but Williams & Hall wont give you muchm hopefully Maymon can give us some offensive production.

What is your take Hat? TIA.

He's had some nice drives to the bucket this yr., but he doesn't usually finish.

Hat, I know Renaldo played awful last night, but from what I saw tonight he looked decent. He was hustling, not forcing shots, grabbing rebounds, and his effort on defense was not his usual lackluster, out-of-place stuff. I think if he can play that way all year he could help this team out. Yes, no?
He almost always plays hard, he just isn't terribly instinctive or basketball smart. That's why he's out of position so often. He can help with a minute here or a minute there. That said, if he's getting more than spot duty come January it's because somebody is hurt and/or Maymon is a straight up bust.

I will give you this: he was very intense on the defensive end tonight and that shows an all around agressive effort from him tonight, which is rare.

What we've learned so far is that despite all the pre-season orange juice on VN, the talking heads were probably right -- this team has a long way to go before it can be considered a legit contender for the East. :mf_surrender:

They're a good to very good team defensively. The offense is going to be a mess all year because they don't pass, catch, or dribble it well. The shooting is going to be spotty. They're going to sink or swim with defense. They can win the SEC and make the Sweet 16. anything above that is massive overachievement.

Gerald Boudreaux, Teddy V, and Doug Sirmons all look great compared to these group of refs.

And yet again Tennessee still has one of the worst student sections.

Agreed. Free throws and offensive rebounds will be the tale of this current squad.

Heard that Missouri State executed their gameplan very well for the most part.

Checking the stats, the three point shooting percentages were, well, awful. Tennessee was 4-14, and Missouri State was 4-22.

Does Mo. State always jack up that many threes, is my question?

Honestly we usually make them and we usually attempt around 20 per game. We shot 688 last year in 36 games and made 252 of them. Your guys length and close out athleticism gave our shooters problems.

Wow man. With all respect, it's pretty tough to beat any Calipari or Donovan coached team if you don't pass, catch, or dribble well. Maybe I'm not seeing the potential you're seeing -- but SEC championship and Sweet 16, with anything else being an over-achievement? That's pretty lofty.

#1 is because it's a "neutral site" game. thats why they haven't done the "T" when the team comes on the court in either game.

Our athleticism hurt, for sure, but I was still suprised more weren't knocked by y'all. Good luck the rest of the season.

In the second game tonight, Belmont is up 33-10 with 6:21 to go in the first half. Brady's crew looks like they'd rather be elsewhere.

I disagree completely. PG is the weak link on this team.

Good tough win. Thought Golden was solid out there, especially considering it was his first start. He made some bad decisions a few times and turned the ball over but overall, well done. He's also clutch at the free throw line. I also thought Scotty had another solid performance. He really attacked when he was in. He went up a bit weak and didn't finish as much as I'd like but he did get to the line. He was active on the other end in the 2nd half as well. He was really going at it with whoever was guarding him. Tobias was very solid, had a few turnovers driving to the hole. Still would like to see him be more aggressive at times, he definitely could've scored more in the first half. The half-court offense was definitely ugly as expected but we grinded it out. We still left MSU shooters open a bit too much for my taste.

Oh and TBA was empty tonight. Can only imagine how empty it must be now. Would've liked to have stuck around to watch Belmont again but decided to head home. Bring on MSG. Go Vols.

How good do you anticipate Maymon being for us? Would he come in at the 3 or 4?

I'm here and it would take very little time to count the entire crowd.

Glad to see us pick up this win tonight. I agree it was against a quality opponent, and I think we progressed in some areas of need tonight. Hopefully it will continue.

Hopson did look more aggressive. His mid-range game looked good, and if he continues it, we will become more difficult to stop over time.
