And yet again Tennessee still has one of the worst student sections.

I really wish they could move the students along the side of the court, instead of behind the goal. Makes for a much better and louder atmosphere, imo. Too bad it can't happen though.

Well they scan the tickets as they come through the gate and tally each ticket and announce the total tallyed towards the end of the game.
There's no possible way there were 16,000 people at TBA tonight. The concourses were dead when I got there. The place was just empty tonight.

I wanted to go to both tonight, but school kept me home watching on the net. I would love nothing more than to see Byrd's squad beat the brains out of Brady. Only the diehards stay to see that game. Wish I could have.

He almost always plays hard, he just isn't terribly instinctive or basketball smart. That's why he's out of position so often. He can help with a minute here or a minute there. That said, if he's getting more than spot duty come January it's because somebody is hurt and/or Maymon is a straight up bust.

Agreed. Thanks. Hate to see someone built like him with a ton of potential not be better than he is.

This is the issue with Rupp as well. Although 1st in attendance and ranked the 3rd hardest venue to play in, it could be twice as loud if the thousands of blue hairs would pass their tickets along to someone who will stand up and give more than a golf clap and a nod of approval during a crucial moment in the game. Sucks.

Having been to both Rupp twice and TBA a million times, there is absolutely no comparison between the two in noise level, imo. Rupp destroys TBA in that regard.

Honestly we usually make them and we usually attempt around 20 per game. We shot 688 last year in 36 games and made 252 of them. Your guys length and close out athleticism gave our shooters problems.

Exactly, and this is why we can be an elite defense if we want to work that hard, and why hat says we can win the SEC.

Last year our defensive 3-point percentage was 29.7%, 9th in the country and best in the SEC. It can easily be that good again this year.

In addition, our 2-point defense has the potential to be better, if Fields can block shots within the defense as advertised.

Finally, Goins/Golden is the best defensive PG combination we've had in years.

We're not quite quick enough at the wings, but our length and height make up for it to large degree. Can be a great defense if they work at it.

No doubt, its still louder than most just by sheer numbers. But, it could still be louder, which is scary. I have been to TBA about 15 times or so, and it is somewhat subdued at points, but has shaken the roof a few times.

he offense is going to be a mess all year because they don't pass, catch, or dribble it well. The shooting is going to be spotty.

It's baffling just how bad they are at the post entry pass, especially.

I'm starting to wonder if a couple of them have vision problems.

Wow man. With all respect, it's pretty tough to beat any Calipari or Donovan coached team if you don't pass, catch, or dribble well. Maybe I'm not seeing the potential you're seeing -- but SEC championship and Sweet 16, with anything else being an over-achievement? That's pretty lofty.

The potential is there, though. Tobias had 10 turnovers in two games this week; he'll learn from those and cut them down by SEC play. Dude's a true freshman being asked to carry the offensive load on his back. Heck, he was helping Golden bring the ball up the court, and then shifting into the main go-to scorer.

Getting Goins healthy should help. Golden played well, but senior starter PG's tend to be more of a calming influence than frosh.

Scotty can be frustrating to watch, but he's very difficult to guard. You just have to accept that a couple times a game he's going to hand the ball off to the other team instead of shooting it. When he doesn't do that, he really is a tough cover with the elevation he gets on that jumper and his quick first step.

So, there are pieces. Still not a very good team right now, though.

Hat, what point guard in the past few years does Golden remind you of? If he develops a decent shot, he'd be nearly identical to Sheron Collins. Short, stocky, wide frame who can get into the lane and make plays.

They looked good defensively tonight. Much better at this point in the season than they were last season. The offense is a work in progress but with the exception of Hopson/McBee ( they are playing at their peaks) they all have plenty of room for improvement. I expect them to be much better offensively by the time the SEC schedule starts. This was a big win with the starting point guard on the bench watching.

Agree with everything, Hat, except no. 7.

Hopson gets out of control with his ball handling and decisions when he is too agressive. He needs to stick with his strengths(mid range) and stop driving uncontrolled to the basket with no plan.

Agreed! He is turning it over way too much to be a "team leader".
