Then that may explain a pre-game agreement. Still doesn't excuse chick from going into the huddle. I must have been st the petro stand when this happened.

She didn't actually go in, but she was about to.

I love how people blast Hopson and want him benched. That is uterly stupid!! People who say that are idiots and have no idea what they're talking about. Yes, he turns the ball over some and isn't a "lock-down defender", but he's averaging 16.5 ppg in 30 mpg (up from 9 ppg in '09, 12 ppg in '10). He sucks I guess.

I think people are so obsessed with Hopson that they've become blind to everything else. Like Melvin Goins piss poor defensive play recently. He's killin us. And our bench has no productivity at all.

We run barely any offense but when we do damn near every set is for him, we are sure to play him more minutes than anyone else, regardless of what he does on defense. He should be averaging 16.5 ppg. He doesn't rebound, he doesn't do much else besides take shots

Hopson wasn't the problem last night, but he often is. That being said, he still doesn't play defense and is soft as all get-out around the rim on both ends of the floor. He treats contact like it is a disease.

Donovan left his huddle to do one as well.

I guess I missed that one, but granting it during the first TO of the game seems like a really, really bad idea.

I'll give TJ a pass on it if both coaches were obligated I suppose.

If you really HATE this team and HATE Bruce Pearl then it may be best for you and for TENNESSEE BASKETBALL if you just stay home, don't watch them on television, stay off the message boards and maybe even become a CAT/Calapari fan.

All caps would have sealed it.

I know the answer, but go ahead and ask the question in this thread. Why in the hell was Tony Jones giving an interview to ESPN during the first timeout? I thought they were playing a pre-game clip, then realized it was actually live during the timeout.

Coaches coach during timeouts, not talk to courtside reporters.

NBA coaches do it all the time.

I believe that this team can make the big dance but not this way. Why can't this team come out and play against everyone the way they did at Pitt? Why do we play down to our opponent? This stuff is getting crazy.

this is not a new thing. pearl has been unable to keep his teams focused and motivated on a consistent basis since the lofton, jajuan, bradshaw days. with those guys around... you felt like they always gave 100%. the run in the tourney last year was more due to jp and wayne elevating their play, and goins playing out of his mind.

pearl will be suspended for at least a year and then hopefully we can fire all these guys and get a COACH/
TEACHER instead of a CHEERLEADER for $2,000,000 a year.

oh... and i loved all the standing around on offense last night down the stretch and OT. pearl still hasn't figured out that the flex is for high school and Dr. Tom Davis never won ****... although he did have integrity.

In all fairness this "flex offense" is a bastardized version.

Always a good feeling when a co-worker comes in and says "yeah, my brother just called me and said he saw Brian Williams at Preservation Pub after the game last night drunk off his ass."

Surprised he could drink and breathe at the same time.

I don't watch much NBA onTV, but I go to Grizzlie games fairly regularly. Lionel Hollins has never stepped out of his huddle during the game for a live interview. He may send out another coach to talk to Craig Sager, but Lionel isn't out there.

You might want to watch some games on ABC and/or ESPN. Typically one head coach interviews at the end of Q1 and the other at the end of Q3.

I can see how this wouldn't be a problem you've encountered with the Grizzlies though.

If Hopson averages 16.5 ppg but the man he's guarding is allowed 6-8 ppg of easy baskets, how effective is he really?

Ain't he the one who talked about going to the NBA after his freshman season? He will be lucky to play in Europe.

We will make the tournament at the end of the season.....if we win the SEC tournament. Its not going to happen otherwise. We can play when the games are big so as long as we make it out of the first round of the SEC tourney we should be good to go :D

I've been missing them for no good reason other than I don't care to see what happens.

It's just not an enjoyable experience.

I realized that last night while watching and it was still in the first half. I don't enjoy watching THIS team at all....so, I quit watching. Maybe I was a jinx. Hope me not watching helps the rest of the year.

I concur, the entire team is a headache. Like yourself, my realization was last night. I took a bit longer, but when Hopson held the ball until 3 seconds were left on the shot clock and passed it back to Goins, beyond the three, with the game 66-64. I was done at that point.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about an end of quarter/half interview. TJ gave an interview during the first time out of the game, called by Florida. I think it was before the first TV timeout, so it was within the first 4 minutes of the game.

I fell asleep at end of first half. Neither team looked remotely like Sweet 16 material, imo.

It's along the lines of the end of the quarter interview.

End of quarter/half interviews are standard paractice. I've never seen a live interview with the head coach during the game in any sport outside of the World Series.

I seriously doubt Coach K would leave his huddle during a timeout in a game with UNC to chat with whatever courtside reporter ESPN brought to town. And if asked to do so he'd have the requestor removed from the building.

I know ABC does it with NBA coaches, my guess is ESPN does as well. It's a new thing ESPN is doing this year in college bball apparently.
