The Section 103 Postgame Report.

End of quarter/half interviews are standard paractice. I've never seen a live interview with the head coach during the game in any sport outside of the World Series.

I seriously doubt Coach K would leave his huddle during a timeout in a game with UNC to chat with whatever courtside reporter ESPN brought to town. And if asked to do so he'd have the requestor removed from the building.

Unless contractually obligated, I'm with you in that I would tell the reporter to take a flying leap or send the video coordinator over and let her interview him.

i think we can easily turn this around. This is more mental and i expect Bruce and staff to fix that.

Don't you think if they could fix it, it should already be fixed? This is what it is. The only bright spot is that we are losing games, but the law of averages are that we will hit a lucky shot at the end of a game or two in the future, that is if this team doesn't just pack it in.

My guess is they are contractually obliged to do it.

This, and I think it must be a new thing. I was floored when I realized it was a live interview, and then they interviewed Donovan live in a minute or two. I've never seen it happen in the middle of a half of college basketball.

Both teams probably agreed to it beforehand, on the theory that there's no such thing as bad publicity.

I'd say you are correct, but do you really want TJ speaking for your program?

Nope.

But what are you gonna do...decline the opportunity to address the ESPN audience, and just let Donovan/Calipari/Pastner/whoever take your slot?

I "think" it's a new deal between ESPN and the conference with SEC Super Tuesday broadcasts at least and maybe all SEC conference games ESPN shows.

If he's going to say things like, "Bruce Pearl is my mentor, and I'm just trying to be him". Then yes, give them the slot.

Hold on. A few posts ago you were telling me to watch some games because this in-game head coach interview was common practice. Now you're "speculating"that it's a new deal?

If half court offense is either a trey or a drive, pick another style. No one can shoot mid range? This would be at least more bearable if we were playing Bruce Pearl style. I say pick the 5 fastest players and start pressing like mad. Foul a lot with a purpose and control the rhythm. NEVER SUB WHILE ON A RUN. NEVER TAKE OUT THE HOT HAND. If you can't run like a greyhound you sit, Brian. Work on the press and ball handling skills and shooting and forget "plays".

Play the littliest guy if he can shoot. Play Kenny and Woolridge and Pearl as 6, 7 and 8. Run, run, run and have some fun!!

This is true the SEC basketball coaches/AD's agreed to do it with ESPN they are the first one's in the nation

1. Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver's rendition of the National Anthem was worth the price of admission. There's a reason they are bluegrass legends.
2. Good job by the dance team of firing the crowd up before the game. Nothing says "Let's Go To War" like a redux of the Melissa Etheridge routine.
3. Florida stayed out for the Anthem. Good job, Billy Munster.
4. Erving Walker flat abused Melvin Goins. Easily the worst defensive performance of Goins' career.
5. Tennessee is up 29-21 with all the momentum and loses Chandler Parsons twice at the three point line. That's the kind of lapse that loses games.
6. Tobias Harris was very good offensively. He was utterly atrocious defensively.
7. If anyone wonders why I think so little of Scotty Hopson's game, go back and watch the offensive possession at 66-64. It will be self explanatory.
8. The coaching staff was in utter disarray during overtime. It looked like they were attempting to herd cats.9. The magic show at halftime was awesome. Awesome in its complete and total idiocy.
10. Saturday is now a must win. Lose to Vanderbilt and the season is officially off the tracks.

wow. i have the mental image in my head of the staff trying to round up abour 20 short haired tabbys. Thanks for the much needed laugh!!!

In all fairness this "flex offense" is a bastardized version.

true. and bastard is a good choice since the actual real flex would be better (although still way below major D1 bball) than this idiotic standing around, pass the ball back and forth 35 feet from the basket and then go 1 on 1 with 8 seconds left on the shot clock. i just don't understand how pearl can stand to watch it, yet its our "go to" offense. it's just pathetic.

The Flex- Flex Basketball Play
To end the in game interview argument, SEC schools are contractually obligated to do one during the game. This happens often during NBA games and if a coach doesn't want to do it, (talk long) all they need to do is pull a Phil Jackson and say, "We need to score more points than the other team." Over and Over.

7. If anyone wonders why I think so little of Scotty Hopson's game, go back and watch the offensive possession at 66-64. It will be self explanatory.

Three straight Scotty Hopson possessions:

1. He caught ball off screen, dribbled around, then threw the ball to Melvin Goins with 2 seconds on shot clock when Melvin was about 35 feet out.

2. He stood in the corner with his hands on his hips and didn't move until we missed a shot.

3. He stood in corner with his hands on his hips, finally moved when he got a screen, came off the screen, didn't shoot the open shot, drove to lane and gave up game winning shot to Brian Williams.

Pretty much summed up his career for me in three plays, except it didnt involve lazy defense or atrocious ball handling.
