The Section 103 Postgame Report.

I'm pretty young, and know some about UT basketball, but please explain the Corey Allen game to me.
At the end of the Kentucky game in Knoxville during the '92-'93 season, Corey Allen rebounded an intentionally missed free throw, scored to tie the game, and got fouled. He then made the free throw to beat the 'Cats. You had to see it to believe it.

Dude, he asks a simple question to explain about a basketball game played in '93 and this is the response?

You need to lighten up and back off your crusade against the "trolls".

Having a difference of opinions is one thing, but this is getting ridiculous.
I'm pretty sure the only people who the Corey Allen game is "obscure" to are under 25 or think UT basketball started when the head coach painted his chest.

And frankly, it isn't obscure to any Vol hoops fan from the day.

One of the few bright spots of the Houston era. The crappy part for me is that, though I was a student, I missed it because I was doing a co-op assignment at the time.

I am sure you remember the part about Houston stepping over the line before the ball hit the rim too. Pitino was not very pleased with the refs missing that call.

Allan had an excuse. He didn't have much practice at missing free throws.

101-40 a few weeks later indicates everyone associated with Big Blue was pretty pissed.

Dude, all this gibberish they've been posting and you want to jump in now? You act as though this is the very beginning of my interaction with zjc. As usual, mods side with CBP hater hat fans... What is that about? Tight cliques on VN.
Don't worry about hat's feelings. His ego will protect him from all outside opinion.

I try to block out everything after the Kentucky win that season. Especially that game, the worst beat down I have ever seen a TN team take.
The game at Syracuse the next season, when they went about 5 minutes without as much as hitting the rim with a shot, was pretty bad.

Who cares about a meaningless win in '92? That wasn't a good year for us at all. How can anyone who knew how irrelevant we were back then not be a fan of CBP? Back then we were just a spoiler who may fluke out an upset if we played a game that mattered all year. Now look at us. Big games vs the top competition, out of conference, national tv... Now we're like the Lady Vols! It was never like that, esp in '92. For guys that remember the past, how are you so unhappy? It just doesn't add up. Your best win ever should not be a meaningless upset in an otherwise poor year. Yet more evidence of your depressing nature.

How is the Tourney play any different under Pearl as it was under Green? Pretty sure I didn't miss us going to the Elite Eight under Pearl.

You admitted you want him gone as soon as possible. You can't be trusted to be unbiased.

I will take beating Kentucky at Basketball over any other team out there, regardless of ranking, (expect in the NCAAs). Its like beating Alabama in football, or for most of you new fans, beating Florida. Its even sweeter to beat Kentucky when they are expected to blow UT out.

The current half court offense can look very familiar to those times.
I remember sitting in an 80% empty TBA watching UT set up in the halfcourt and thinking: "My God. They are actually running a play for Kevin Whitted." It doesn't get any worse than that.

Hat hates him for being a snitch. Some hate him because they played high school ball and 'know' the game. And the rest are what i refer to as the hat groupies.

I'll wait for the predictable 'we just demand more' posts to start any minute.

Wow. Just wow.

You know, this may get me a short vacation, but I don't care. You can take that attitude and cram it right back up your arse. I was a student during the fabulous Wade Houston era, and I sat through dozens of miserable, listless, endless losses, and was only rewarded two or three times with a really great moment, and that was one of them. That game against Kentucky was no more meaningless to anybody in that arena in 93 than the Kansas game was to anybody in TBA Sunday night. And once your Basketball Savior bows out early in March again, the Kansas game won't end up being any more meaningful than that Kentucky game was all those years ago.

I like Pearl; I really do. I want him to be successful. But you don't have to constantly s*** on the entire history of the program in order to prop the guy up.

By his logic, if we get bounced in the first or second round, the win he wants to build a statue of Bruce for, will be worthless.

I was a senior at UT sitting in that arena, and the place was insane, and 17 years later here comes some Johnny Come Lately crowing about this year's big regular season win but telling us that that one against Kentucky was meaningless. He really might as well have slapped my wife. Maybe it was meaningless to all the frontrunners who didn't bother watching at the time, but it sure as hell meant something to those of us who were there.

Just for nostalgia, another thing I remember about the Corey Allen game. I believe the game was played on a Wednesday and it was one of the few UT hoops games on all year other than the SEC tournament. (I think Jefferson Pilot used to run these Wednesday night special games and this was their choice).

Anyway, I was about to shut the TV off and then it happens. Houston make, then an intentional miss, then Allen with the put back.

Great memories.

NYC thinks your memory's meaningless. Sucks, doesn't it?

Welcome to the board.

Dude, I think all he was trying to say is that TN basketball is performing better CONSISTENTLY than anytime since Ernie and Bernie. Ya sure the win over Kentucky in 93 was great, but you cannot say it was far and away better than FL in 06, Memphis in 08, or the game on Sunday. Tournament implications make that so.
