The shut down thread

Maybe help me understand what's implied below. He doesn't mention curbing illegal immigration across the border.
He made a campaign promise he was going to do just that, build a wall. People voted for him. So he’s attempting to fulfill that promise.

In fact like him or hate him (I’m not a fan of the person by a long shot) he’s been pretty consistent in sticking to his campaign promises. That’s why this is a huge deal to Chucky and Nans it will be another promise fulfilled with a very vocal victory lap and it will help him get re-elected.

There's no court. It's his decision.

Was fentanyl coming across 20+ years ago?

Was opium coming across 20+ years ago?

When have you see 50,000 come at the border all at once?

One more Caravan is on the move north to our southern border as we speak....might have 5-10 thousand.
Another Caravan behind it is forming to march north again in just weeks. Hope they bring enough food & water as they journey through the friendly confines of Mexico. LG & Mick & Septic need to be there cheering them onward.

I fear that ship has sailed.
Only if average people allow it. We still exist we just don't speak up.

Yes hard drugs have been coming across the border since they were running Opium into San Francisco in the 1800's. We didn't build a wall around California to end it. A wall does not stop addiction. Ask the millions of opiod abusers that started on prescribed meds.

Romney Backs Trump on partial shutdown, says ‘I don’t understand’ Pelosi’s position

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, on Friday backed President Trump’s stance on the partial government shutdown, backing his call for a wall on the southern border and saying he doesn’t understand Democrats’ positioning on the issue.

"You (Pelosi) and your fellow Democrats have voted for over 600 miles of border fence in the past, why won't you vote for another few miles now?" said Romney, speaking in Ogden, Utah after visiting with officials about the shutdown's impact on the community. "I don't understand their position, I really don't."

Is the idiotic retort you referenced? While pining for rational dialogue?
No idea what you mean. I flipped a quote back that dismissed the concept that a wall would not stop people from coming in. You took me flipping the quote back as some hard line dismissal of my own and I provided you a quote of the president where it is implied a "border wall" will allow us to only let people in legally.

Here is my actual stance

This wall is a convienent deflection of problems at home. The same can be said of the nationalist rhetoric creeping in around the globe.

Historically we have seen that nationalistic agenda's rarely aid growth or propserity and more frequently lead to conflict

The premise of shutting down the government to bolster our national security while putting the workers involved into that security in distracted states at home and professionally is IMO the least effective approach possible.

If you want to curb illegal immigration give them more viable ways to immigrate naturally, the same as many of your ancestors that came by the boatload and we're vehemently despised upon their arrival.

If you want to curb drugs and guns along the border then reform our stance on them

Supply and demand says tunnels under a wall will still be the easiest entry points if supply is high.

I think everyone would agree that we have an immigration problem, but how does it rise to the level of a National Emergency if it's been going on for decades, and in fact is better now than it has been in 20 plus years? He would lose that argument in court, I believe.
Just copying and pasting your talking points now. Jees at least put some effort into making them look like your own statements you lazy azz

My one and only issue with Trump is that he panders to base reactions of human nature on both sides of the isle not for betterment of man or country but for his own self gratification. I cannot blame him for it being effective, but I hope for more from the leader of the Free world. In my very humble opinion he does not care about curing illegal immigration but he traffic's in it because it is easy money for a political businessman.

I don't question people's passions to have better immigration controls or border security and I don't question if sections of infrastructure couldn't help us achieve those ends. I do question our inability to take perspective on how much, how long, and to what end it will help us be a better country.

Will have to see the details but this was basically the deal that everyone agreed to 6 months ago then Trump pulled out of it the next day when Miller and the Freedom Caucus went ballistic.

I guess he has made some deal with them. Or maybe the details on this will demonstrate it's just not meaningful.

He might be trading the Deplorables for the Deportables.. Nothing would surprise me.

As if ending illegal immigration was as easy as building a multi-billion dollar wall. There's truly some idiotic retorts when it comes to national security.

It’s not about ending it. It’s about making it easier for the border agents to enforce our laws. Less than 1% of the federal budget should be a no brainer and is for everyone except libtards.

I would almost bet that if we had a border wall from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arizona state line with California that all of the drugs would come into the US across the California border with the rest of the US.

Except that’s not what is being offered. Trump is supposedly offering actual legislation to make dreamers citizens if the rumors are true. I realize you moonbats don’t know the difference between an EO and actual law at this point but do try to learn? Mmmmmkay good talk 😘

Now wait a minute Mick. You all have been screaming just use sensors/technology and no wall for two months. The fact of the matter is there's already sensors down there and drones already being used.

And I answered insinuating that will pick tunnels up. I didn't say we need them. They are already in use. Now where there's been no wall placed obviously there's no sensors there but drones still fly it.

The way you put a crimp in the tunnel thing is to mine them. Don't announce a find - just mine it, then when you detect use set it off. Word gets around and it's scary thinking you might be the one who set it all off. Since most people aren't suicide bombers, life threatening deterrents with no warning tend to work.

I understand that. But I've been seeing more and more tweets of people out in Cali saying make sure you know who you buy your drugs from and know what your getting. From what I saw something as simple as marijuana is being laced with fentanyl and killing people.

Any minor that came here as a result of their parents is not at fault for being here. This is the country they know. We need to find a way to absorb them into the citizen population but we must not reward the illegal behavior of their parents by doing so. That’s my only big nit on it.

If a kid claims rights under DACA, you immediately deport the parents with no chance of ever coming back. We need to end the anchor baby thing, too. The kids are citizens of the county the parents belong to; they are exported with the parents, or the parents are denied entry into the US forever ... their choice. Parents should have to offer proof of citizenship to complete a birth certificate; if not citizens, the birth certificate states the kid is not a citizen.
