If we had a president that demanded 5 billion dollars for planned parenthood or he would shut down the government, for years if necessary, would it still be about the little white line?

Yes, I saw someone put forth this hypothetical today. Suppose in 2010, after the GOP had just taken back the House, Obama demanded 5.6 billion more for Obamacare or he'd shut down the government. What do you think boehner would have done? He would have laughed in Obama's face. Trump is in no better bargaining position here.

I agree with you on this. If a wall was such a priority he should have shut the government down before the last CR was passed. He didn’t. He gave up almost all leverage then.

And it’s obvious why he didn’t. He was too scared of only having the republicans to blame for the shutdown since they had control of all branches. This is what you get, if you are pro wall, for worrying about elections and not policy.

Have you not figured out that the big deal is always what else is in the bill ... especially when the Dims do it. It's the proverbial trading your soul to the devil when you accept something the Dims are shoveling. We need something limiting congress to one item per bill so everybody can see very plainly what they are actually pushing.

I have no complaints with one item per bill. However, lobbyists would never allow something like that. Passing favors deep in Bill's is the bipartisan democratic way.

I completely agree. Congress is bought and paid, and it's really hard to do those paybacks in the harsh light of day. A lot less stuff would be passed and far less money wasted if there were accountability, and that can only come from knowing what congress is actually doing. The shady stuff is always buried deep in some legislation.
