The shut down thread

At ~$3 a piece, $6B would buy 2,000,000,000 anti-personnel mines. With 700 unwalled miles of the border (5,280 ft x 700) there are roughly 3,696,000 linear feet of mine'able ground. Just to make it interesting, let's deepen the mineable to a half mile. We're now at 9,757,440,000 sq ft. - enough to put one mine every 5 sq ft, roughly.

I'm good with that. Now the Dims and other human rights people would argue that there would have to be fencing to keep the "innocent" from blowing themselves away. I'm good with that too as long as the fencing is wired like an industrial strength bug zapper.

If all of you left coast liberals would just open your houses to the poor huddled masses from the southern border we wouldn't have to shut down the government.

Ouch. I'm kind of surprised Trump hasn't recommended that federal employees declare bankruptcy to get those pesky creditors off their backs.

But there was no physical barrier when the baseline was established, so it's representative of how many people are crossing, unless you think W was at least 8x more effective at apprehending people at the border than Trump is, which is something I don't think you want to say.

Not at all the same if you play definitions games. Like whether "apprehension" means stopped and turned around vs stopped and incarcerated. And where does catch and release fall ... the people put on buses and driven to non border states and released? Every time someone starts looking at long term government statistics that pretend to show how things are improving, the big change seems to be in how the quantities are defined.

Newsflash. Obama has been out of office for approx 2 years. Continuing to switch off Trump to Obama is not only old but a very weak reply

But since you brought him up Obama is eminently more suited for the job of POTUS than Trump and in fact the last several few Presidents

And before you bring her up, Hillary is gone to. Hopefully she will not try to run again, Trey Gowdy has made her his obsession in trying to find anything to hang on her. Gordy is s very competent Prosecutor. So if there was anything to Lynch her on he would have assured it got done. No cigar

Move on to the President. Thanks to inept lawyering we now know the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians in their desire to get Trump elected as POTUS
precious.

Regardless of all this deflective ********, the data is still representative of how few people are crossing today compared to the early 2000's. We know Obama was inflating data to show more apprehensions, and he still had a lot fewer than W. You will likely not find any valid data to support the idea that more people are crossing illegally today, though I urge you to search for it.

Take away the incentive for them to come here in the first place, devise an e-verify system that works and then make it a felony to employ illegals. There's always been a resistance to making the penalties for employing illegals stiff and it's because they don't really care - they've never been serious about this and don't be fooled, neither is trump. The only reason he cares about it now is that he fears looking weak and because it controls the news cycle. He's already capitulated once and Mattis stated explicitly said he'd given up on it months ago. It wasn't until he had his pants pulled down by right wing pundits that he grew a backbone.
cash is always an option. and e verify might stop some bigger companies but joe blow ameriko can still pay jose ******* 50 bucks cash to cut his grass.

And if you Right coast loons would just open your houses to unwanted children we wouldn't have so many abortions.

Too lazy to click on the link but how could there be a meaningful ratings difference as one was right after the other?

Simple, when everyone thought the speech was over they turned their TV back on and the Nancy and Chuck show was on.

Nancy doesn't care a fig about those workers beyond using them as a political tool. It is well within her power to get the government open. All she has to do is agree to spend $$. Never been a problem for her before.

Both sides are equally responsible for this fiasco.

Jose ******* ain't coming to murica' to knock on doors and one-off cut grass. He's looking to get picked up as day labor for a landscaping company that is looking for cheap labor. Whoever runs that landscape company has something to lose...

I would say that's true of most any political issue, and it's true with regard to immigration in a broad sense, but this shutdown is on Trump. Trump had a Republican congress and didn't get a wall. Now R's don't control congress, they don't even really want the wall (something like only 44% of Americans want the wall), and Trump is trying to force this down America's throat. It was his campaign promise that helped him win, but it's really not that popular of an idea, and he is getting desperate.

They don't knock on doors, they hang at Home Depot and other central areas. You can see it all the time if you just look. Guy in a pick up shows up, loads a few and takes off for his special project.

Where you been Septic?

Who is going to run around and control that? ICE?

So you say based on your particular prejudice. Schumer and Pelosi were once for the wall now they are not, c'mon man.

Both sides are still responsible as either side could end it. It's on both of them.

So do you say the same to parents who've have their kid kidnapped and is being held for a ransom--that it's on the parents and the kidnapper
