You do realize the chart says "apprehensions". Since the border is wide open in many areas, and there are plenty of reports of people crossing but not being caught because of response time, the real key number is the total number of people crossing the border illegally. But we don't know that because there's no damn physical barrier to stop or slow the people who wish to remain undetected and uncounted. If you're going to argue a point, at least use relevant numbers.

But there was no physical barrier when the baseline was established, so it's representative of how many people are crossing, unless you think W was at least 8x more effective at apprehending people at the border than Trump is, which is something I don't think you want to say.

Take away the incentive for them to come here in the first place, devise an e-verify system that works and then make it a felony to employ illegals. There's always been a resistance to making the penalties for employing illegals stiff and it's because they don't really care - they've never been serious about this and don't be fooled, neither is trump. The only reason he cares about it now is that he fears looking weak and because it controls the news cycle. He's already capitulated once and Mattis stated explicitly said he'd given up on it months ago. It wasn't until he had his pants pulled down by right wing pundits that he grew a backbone.

You know that might actually mean we have to have something similar to a national ID, and we know how the Dim party feels about IDs. How can somebody really use e-verify to check someone if he can't first determine that the guy applying is even who he says he is because he has no legally verifiable photo identification to show? Since states started issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens, they managed to destroy pretty much the only reasonable solution. Of course, giving illegal aliens driver's licenses also removes a disincentive for them in the first place as does "press 1 to continue in English" etc.
