The sky isn’t falling… OSU is just that good.

Texas
Penn State
Notre Dame
Oregon

All of those teams wouldve pounded us. I would list Georgia as well, but with them losing their QB, who knows. But they sure handled us no problem in the regular season. We werent that good, that's just the facts. We were a mediocre team that benefitted from a very favorable schedule. That's all.
All of those have way more depth than the Vols, with the exception of maybe the DL and I think the Vols could beat Texas, ND and Penn State, especially with a healthy Sampson. None of these teams have the explosive offense that Ohio State has and the flow of the other matchups would have been different type games. Ohio State is unstoppable right now, until proven otherwise.

The Vols way over achieved in 2024. A freshman QB, youth at the LB and Secondary positions, and no true top-notch talent at WR. Most reasonable people had the Vols winning between 7-8 games in 2024 based on all of the uncertainty with the roster. The one bright spot on the roster, preseason, was the depth at DL and for the most part that lived up to the hype.

I also think that if the Vols wouldn't have been sleep walking at Columbus in the first quarter, it would've been a bit more competitive, they were certainly overwhelmed from the jump and the game was over before it started.

Since we now know we played the best team in the country by far, does everybody at least feel better about the Ohio State game? We also had to play them at their place. Oregon had no answers. They got beat faster and worse than we did.

I will feel better when we can land some solid WRs in transfer portal. I heard that we may grab Zachariah Branch which is a great start. That has me feeling better than Ohio State just blowing out Oregon.

I was more concerned about 2025.

That's BS

Yes. Big 10 is a great league. SEC kinda smelly.

Starting to think this new NIL thing maybe backfire on us. The north has more cash than the south.

Gonna have to find that old confederate money stash.

Nope, not at all. The effort by us was piss poor and pathetic
Some of you guys probably never played high-level sports, and it shows. It’s like this sometimes. As you level up, the expectations change, but you still get your ass whooped sometimes during the ascension, which happens less and less as you figure out why and correct those issues. The Vols are on the come-up. OSU, Georgia, and maybe a couple of others are a decade ahead of us. Texas is more comparable to the current situation of the Vols. Arizona State (if it’s not a fluke) is more comparable. Leave Heupel and Danny White alone and let them work it out. I believe they’ve got appropriate growth mindsets.

Jesus would some of just stop. No it doesn’t feel better. We got completely and utterly dominated. There is no outcome where we “feel better” about a 4 TD blowout loss.

Words of wisdom from the Sheik.

Listen up you young whippersnappers. The Sheik and I spent 12+ years wandering lost in a desert

If you think the effort by the team against OSU was up to standard, then you're using Butch Jones level standards.

I felt a little better reading that this OSU team was considered pre-season to be the most talent loaded team in OSU history. We played and coached an awful game, but we were simply out-manned regardless. We needed them to have an average day, but they played to their best potential.

I said it after our game with OSU. We caught them at a terrible time as they rallied from a shocking defeat to Michigan at home.
Chip Kelly put on a master class of shredding both ours and Oregon's defense. There was a reason he got a shot as head coach in the NFL and that showed in both those games.
And he had weeks to prepare for each of those games.

My guess is Kelly had been drawing up new plays for Oregon since their first game and he had multiple open weeks to scheme for UT.

He certainly called great games. Now his window shortens and let’s see if the players stay emotionally up.

I feel about the same just more questions.

How has all of college football managed to fall so far behind one program?

How has OSU managed to build an absolutely elite coaching staff, top to bottom and hold together elite talent and depth at every single position while the rest of CFB falls apart as soon as the portal opened?

How do other programs replicate what OSU has built? Can anyone else replicate it?

Worse? Sorry. Don't know a lot about this new math you're throwing at me.

41-21 vs 42-17?

Oregon was beat much faster than we were. Halftime Ohio State 34 Oregon 8. Halftime Ohio State 21 Tennessee 10. Tennesse got the ball back in the second half first and had a chance to pull with one score.

The Vols are on the come-up.

It doesn't feel that way to me anymore SY (love your name BTW! Zappa is a musical hero of mine!). I think our record last season has given a lot of people a false view of the actual quality of this team. It reminds me of that one season Richt had at Miami when they won 10 games, but struggled in most of them, winning by very slim margins. Then the very next season they tanked. Programs on the come-up do not lose entire position groups to the portal. Programs on the come-up don't fail to develop a single offensive lineman out of high school in 4 years. Programs on the come-up don't play so undisciplined and make so many stupid, unnecessary mistakes. I'm telling you, we need to brace ourselves because 2025 is going to be a very underwhelming year for the Vols.
